HALLOWEENIES

It was either a very quiet year for trick-or-treating, or I bought too much candy. 😛 It’s super foggy out tonight, and I know lots of families were very excited about Halloween this year, judging by the chatter on the village FB group. We’ve had lots of kids, actually, but it doesn’t feel like we had THAT many, if you know what I mean. They’re still trickling in as I write this, and maybe I feel like it wasn’t so many because Karin took turns with me answering the door and handing out candy. I guess I’ll be bringing lots...

A STORY I FORGOT TO TELL

I read this poem this evening and it hit me. Prayer by Marie Howe Every day I want to speak with you. And every day something more important calls for my attention—the drugstore, the beauty products, the luggage I need to buy for the trip. Even now I can hardly sit here among the falling piles of paper and clothing, the garbage trucks outside already screeching and banging. The mystics say you are as close as my own breath. Why do I flee from you? My days and nights pour through me like complaints and become a story I forgot...

TOO MUCH TO SEE STRAIGHT

Sometimes I wonder why I bother writing here. I know I say it’s for me, for posterity, etc., but when you are blogging and no one ever comments, it’s a little unmotivating. I suppose it’s my own fault, since I don’t a) market this blog at all or, b) write regularly enough. My family says they read it, but I don’t think anyone else does. And man, I’ve been lame lately. I blame work. The crazy at work. I’ve been back for 4 weeks after vacation and it’s been non-stop crazy and super stress. I really hope it starts leveling...

BUSY WEEKEND BEE

I’ve been back at work for 3 weeks and it’s been non-stop crazy, with no end in sight. And tons going on around work in the rest of my life, too. Today, however, I have the house to myself until evening at least, and while I’ve been up since 6:30 and busy ever since, I’m taking a moment to stop what I’m working on and write something. Yesterday, I talked to my spine doctor to find out about logistics for when and if I decide to go for the neck operation. I wanted to be able to factor in timing...

THE EARLIER IT GETS LATE

Already October. This year is, like all of them, flying by, at the same that I think this particular one has been going at a decently slow pace. I wanted to be posting more, and writing more, and caring more, but I find all three of those to be difficult just now. Karin moved the rest of her stuff home tonight, fixed dinner for us, and then promptly took off for Malmö. I guess my vision of cozy family evenings with all 4 of us hanging out talking was a pipe dream in my own head, haha! She leaves for...

DOWN IN THE DUMPS, LOOKING UP

Getting off my butt, or rather, sitting down on it, and writing a post, since I’ve been too busy the last two weeks to even think about writing or had any motivation whatsoever. The first two weeks of work, so far, have been insane. All of us are stressed to the max, and trying to just get through everything that is being thrown at us. I actually said I needed a stiff drink yesterday after everything we’re dealing with, and I don’t even drink! I hope it lightens up a little bit soon, as work stress, plus worrying about my...

MRI-AY-AY

I met with the spine doctor last Tuesday to discuss the results of my latest MRI. I’m documenting it here so I have an easy way to go back and see what’s been going on, in regards to my pinched nerve. I had the MRI right before we went to Bornholm. According to Dr. Kai, the degeneration has not progressed much since 2017 (when the previous MRI was done), but he said that was to be expected since it had already progressed so far. It’s basically the same, bone on bone between a couple of vertebrae. After 4 weeks off...

THREE WEEKS OF LOVE

Mom and Sarah came back with us to Sweden, from Bornholm. Three weeks! Luxury! It was so nice to have them here, and of course, as always, the time went too fast, and they have already left and returned home to the US. Since they had to share a bed in Germany and on Bornholm, we gave them separate bedrooms at our place (since Karin isn’t living at home it wasn’t too difficult). We had lots of things on the calendar for their visit, and we added a whole pile of stuff as well that Sarah wanted to do since...

BORNHOLM DAYS

There’s something really special about being reunited with family that you love. After a long absence like the one caused by the pandemic, it’s even more special. We drove to Ystad on September 20, with Martin and Karin, and took the ferry over to Bornholm. After arriving in Rønne, we ate lunch in the main square, walked around a little bit, and then headed north to the campgrounds just outside of Allinge which was to be our home for the week. John had arranged the cabins months in advance, and we had two of them: one for 4 people which...
