THE EARLIER IT GETS LATE

Already October. This year is, like all of them, flying by, at the same that I think this particular one has been going at a decently slow pace. I wanted to be posting more, and writing more, and caring more, but I find all three of those to be difficult just now.

Karin moved the rest of her stuff home tonight, fixed dinner for us, and then promptly took off for Malmö. I guess my vision of cozy family evenings with all 4 of us hanging out talking was a pipe dream in my own head, haha! She leaves for London tomorrow on a work trip, and will be back Wednesday night after her soccer game, which means most likely when I’m already in bed.

I saw something earlier today that made me laugh and nod: “The older I get, the earlier it gets late.” So true. I used to regularly, even on work nights, go to bed after 11 pm. Now, I head to bed regularly at 9:30, even though I often read or play iPad games for an hour or so. Lame. It doesn’t seem fair that I’m both tired earlier at night AND awake at an earlier hour in the morning. I slept in quite late both yesterday and today, and this morning, after I fell back asleep, I woke myself up from a dream, because someone from high school showed up in, and I thought, “What? Be serious.” and opened my eyes. There are very few people from high school that I’m in regular touch with at all, and even though my FB feed is filled with old high school friends, it’s hard to be engaged that much, since we’ve had no meaningful contact since 1982. Why this particular person should show up in a dream is ridiculous. Waking up from it in protest was justified!

We have great big white mushrooms dotting the back yard, and this afternoon, when Martin and I left to walk up to the plant nursery, we discovered a ring of bright red, white-spotted fly agaric mushrooms and three big round brown ones. A veritable plethora of interesting fungi! I’ve never seen the fly agaric shrooms here before. We took photos, but didn’t touch. If you boil down the fungus, it’s a psychedelic and apparently eaten in parts of Europe, Asia, and North America. But not by us, here in Flyinge!

It’s definitely autumn. All the leaves are falling, and the colors are spectacular even though it hasn’t been that cold. We’ve had a lot of rain though. I put the swing cushions away today and tidied the remains of the vegetable garden, and moved the porch furniture in readiness for the NEW porch furniture that is coming on Tuesday. We are pitching the two chairs and the sofa because the arms have completely been destroyed after only 3 years. They’ve just snapped and fallen apart. They were made of artificial rattan and I thought they would last longer, but nope. The coffee table and the two footstools are still fine, so we’ll keep those.

All the outdoor furniture is on sale right now, and I found a similar set that is made of metal instead, with fabric strap seats and large cushions. The table that comes with it is quite tall, though, so not sure I’m going to be happy with it. The sofa is also a 3-seat, where our current one was 2-seat, so it will take up slightly more space. But I think it will be better and last much longer.

Despite being a slug both mornings this weekend, I got a lot of stuff done, both cleaning, and club stuff, and various other projects and things around the house, so I feel very accomplished and also fairly recharged for a new week of work, which I hope is a little less crazy than the previous two have been. I have the board handover meeting tomorrow night, and on Friday both an AIC lunch and another bookbinding workshop (with Martin along) in the evening. Next weekend Anders will be gone with his friends hiking and I have no plans (at the moment), so it will be another fairly quiet weekend.

Not much else right now, so I’ll end this and head to bed, since it’s after 9:30—past my bedtime! haha!
