JUST WHAT I NEEDED

I think this coming week is the last of the dead weeks, and then people will start coming back to work. If things start ramping up, that’s quite alright with me, even though I am still not done with the “projects to do if no work is coming in”. Last week, because I was sick, I ended up working all week from home. I plan to work at least tomorrow and Tuesday in the office, then hope to work the rest at home again, because after that everyone will be back and I’ll have to be onsite more than not....

STUCK ON STUFF LEFT BEHIND

I’m reading a good, if slightly disjointed, book by an author that I like, and every page contains word nuggets of beauty, obiter snippets, that I want to copy and write out, and share, and savor. This one struck me particularly: Maybe I shouldn’t be so attached to objects either. But everyone keeps dying, leaving stuff behind, objects I can’t usually get rid of. And I enjoy the company of the dead. They are so quiet. They know things I don’t know. The dead leave clues, and life is a puzzle of trying to read and understand these mysterious hints...

IT’S NOT THE COUGH THAT CARRIES YOU OFF

The last time I was sick was the weekend after our trip to Rome in early May…which turned out to be most likely COVID. Before that, I hadn’t been sick in over two years. Now I’m sick again, only 2.5 months later, this time with a raging sore throat. I had a tickle starting yesterday afternoon, and warned my teammates that I wasn’t feeling great, and was hoping that I wouldn’t be sick today, and yet. Here I am, with my throat on fire (which matches the nerve-burning in my right pointer finger as I am still dealing with the...

BUSY IS THE NEW HAPPY

This coming week and the one after are the two deadest weeks of the year; the weeks when everyone is Sweden is still on vacation and everyone in mainland Europe is just starting. Last week there were about 6 of us on the floor, and this week, I’ll be surprised if there are even 4 of us. I’m working from home tomorrow (Monday) and then again Thursday and Friday, so I won’t be lifting the count in the office, for sure. Today, Debbie and Camilla and I went to Katrinetorp outside of Malmö for lunch in their lovely garden cafĂ©...

SATURDAY STUFF

One of the few things the WordPress export DIDN’T do was pick up the userpics that I used with each post I wrote on Livejournal. They were (and are) a sort of visual indication of mood, and I had over 100 to choose from, and even though I ALSO made note of my mood, I liked seeing them, there beside the words I wrote. When I was looking for a WordPress theme to use with this new blog, I deliberately chose one that allowed me have a small image next to each post, figuring I could put my userpics there....

PINCHY

I did some searching on my blog to find out when this problem with the pinched nerve in my shoulder started. The search function here on WordPress is SO much better than the one on LJ, it’s crazy. The first posts I could find were in September and then October of 2011. That’s 11 years ago! Eleven years I’ve been dealing with this, on and off. The next posts were in 2014 and that’s when I was diagnosed with frozen shoulder and got a cortisone shot. However, that time the problem was my LEFT arm and shoulder and every single...

I HEART ART

I linked to my personal dream art gallery from my menu here on the blog, which was a post that I had originally put together back in 2005. Of course, nearly all of the links were broken, and when I went through the list, many of the artists were either nowhere to be found or I decided I must have been delusional back then because their style was so completely NOT something I care for now. Interesting if so, that one’s tastes can change so much. I’ve updated the list with links to many of the artists that I currently...

A WEEKEND FULL OF GOOD THINGS

It’s a super busy weekend! On Friday, I got together with my best friends, Debbie and Camilla. We hadn’t seen each other in just over a month, because Debbie was in Canada with her family for 4 weeks, and every time Camilla and I tried to get together, one of us was busy. So, we had a lot to catch up on. We met at Camilla’s apartment and ate the takeaway dinner I had picked up on the way. At one point, I remember thinking, “good grief, we are so loud” but it was because we had so much to...

IT’S NEVER TOO LATE TO BE WHAT YOU MIGHT HAVE BEEN*

I’ve got the house to myself. I would say that is just how I like it, but that’s not always the case. I wonder if all parents secretly wish their kids were at home just so they knew where they were and that they were okay. I have one in Detroit (visiting friends) and one in Gothenburg (took the day off to go to Liseberg amusement park…and drove the Tesla there). Anders is on an overnight trip with work…with his NEW JOB. I think what I like is that 1) it’s quiet and 2) it’s clean and 3) I can...

HOW SWEET IT IS

Look at me posting again! Whee! Russell helped me add a Contact page last night, and we fixed some formatting issues on the About page, and he added a captcha safety measure to the comments form so that I don’t get bombarded with spam. I don’t expect I will, regardless, as I don’t link to my blog much or advertise it publicly, but you never know. *** We had a cake party at work this afternoon, and I’m still on a sugar buzz. Helen, who is a friend, and the Marketing Director’s assistant, took it upon herself to organize a...
