IT’S NOT THE COUGH THAT CARRIES YOU OFF

The last time I was sick was the weekend after our trip to Rome in early May…which turned out to be most likely COVID. Before that, I hadn’t been sick in over two years. Now I’m sick again, only 2.5 months later, this time with a raging sore throat. I had a tickle starting yesterday afternoon, and warned my teammates that I wasn’t feeling great, and was hoping that I wouldn’t be sick today, and yet. Here I am, with my throat on fire (which matches the nerve-burning in my right pointer finger as I am still dealing with the stupid pinched nerve), coughing every time I try to talk.

There were at least 3 bags of throat lozenges in the bathroom just a month ago, but they were ALL gone when I went to get some this morning, apart from a couple of honey-flavored ones.* Martin very kindly gave me the rest of his bag of cherry-flavored Halls from the US, and then even more kindly, went to the Automat and got me another bag. I slept most of the morning, managed to work for about an hour and a half, and then crashed again for several hours before Anders came home.

Karin says she was sick with a sore throat all last week in Greece. Our consultant told me she also has a sore throat. My neighbor just stopped by with a package for me that was misdelivered to them, and says her daughter also has a sore throat. I have not been around any of these people in more than a week (and not at all the neighbor’s daughter). Where I caught it from is a mystery.

Tomorrow, I have a massage scheduled, the first in over 5 weeks, as Emily has been out of the country, and if I have to cancel, if I’m not feeling much better in the morning, I will, quite literally, cry. So, fingers crossed (especially the burning one), and thumbs held.

*Honey-flavored, my ass. They taste like menthol and medicine. Blech.

Sorry you have a sore throat – I remember how bad they can be and I feel lucky for not feeling ill for quite some time (not sure when -it’s been so long!) and I m keeping it that way so I can enjoy the trip to Europe!
