JUST WHAT I NEEDED

I think this coming week is the last of the dead weeks, and then people will start coming back to work. If things start ramping up, that’s quite alright with me, even though I am still not done with the “projects to do if no work is coming in”. Last week, because I was sick, I ended up working all week from home. I plan to work at least tomorrow and Tuesday in the office, then hope to work the rest at home again, because after that everyone will be back and I’ll have to be onsite more than not. I have several appointments this week: physiotherapist, hair, and the spine doctor on Thursday, all of which mean extra time away from my desk, so I have to balance them out with some extra after hours work, unless I take some ATK hours, which I might do, if it is still as dead as I suspect it will be.

This has been a relaxing and productive weekend. I had a list of things I wanted to get done, and I did. Crossing things off of to-do lists is my own personal affirmation, each one a mini pat on the back. The only thing I forgot to put on the list was to go buy a replacement rosebush for the dead one that Anders dug up for me, but I can do that after work one day this week…I know Martin will probably want to go with me: any excuse to go to the plantshop!

My sister was in a rather scary accident a couple of days ago, on an electric scooter in DC, while she and her family were on vacation, and hit her head quite badly. They took her to the hospital to make sure there was no internal bleeding and she got an all-clear after a catscan, but between my two bad falls in the past year, and her husband’s mountain biking accident 4 months ago, and my brother throwing his back out twice, I would like for all of us to just stay healthy and accident-free now, for the foreseeable future. Thinking about how much worse it could have been brought it home to me once more how fragile we are and how lucky we have been as well.

It’s been a beautiful weekend, too: summer in Sweden at its finest. My pelargoniums are still blooming, and the flowers in the front garden provide a rainbow of color that I enjoy each time I see them. The sun has been shining, the skies have been blue, and the temperatures have been just right. My house is clean, all the laundry is done, our guest rooms are arranged for visitors, I’m caught up on everything, and I even wrote another post! Productive, indeed! And that was with plenty of time for just sitting and reading and playing games on the iPad. Perfectly perfect way to spend two days off. Every weekend like this helps me endure the long stretch until my vacation, which is still weeks away.

I know someone who wiped out on one of those electric scooters and wound up needing shoulder surgery. Sometimes I think we should have left the motors to things that have a more protective outer layer.
