SNOW DAY

Today has been such a productive day, though a kind of letdown day, too, because I took mom and Danely to the airport this morning.

We have been having another windstorm, and on top of super-cold temperatures and snowstorms, southern Sweden has been socked with winter. It was -4C this morning and not great for driving as it had been snowing all night, though it was mostly blowing around into drifts. We left at 7 am in order to have extra time, and good thing we did. I ended up taking Anders’ car because the Tesla wasn’t charged up enough. He had been supposed to drive to Tingsryd this morning for work, but thankfully that idea was scrapped, after reports of E22 northbound completely bogged down and over 100 cars stranded in the snow. One man was stuck in his car for over 24 hours, and the military was apparently out rescuing people and getting food and water to those stuck in their cars (!). Crazy.

So driving to Copenhagen was pretty stressful, with an immediate roadblock right at the Gårdstånga traffic circle, where traffic was way backed up. I realized in time to turn around and took Odarslövsvägen instead. It took us a little over an hour to get to the airport, and I parked in the garage and went in with them to get them checked in…which ALSO took a little over an hour, as they had only 2 people at the check-in desks for an insanely large crowd of people. Gah. But they still had plenty of time after they checked in and dropped off their bags to head to the gate and stop for breakfast on the way.

Danely sent me updates at each stage of the trip, which was very much appreciated, and they are currently on their way to Charlotte on the last leg of their trip. My sister is having a root canal today, so not sure who will be picking them up on the other end.

I got home around 10 and started laundry, stripping beds and washing towels, then I ironed stuff, and registered to vote (you have to do it every year), and registered Martin as well, though he has to sign the documents before I can mail them. I’ll print out the forms for Karin, too, but will have to hold them until she’s home in April. I uploaded all my photos from our Christmas trip to an album on Facebook so my family can get them, and now I’ve even made a start on my blog book, preparing the layout and downloading all my posts from 2023 so I can work on it over the weekend. I’m even managing to listen to my Discover Weekly list on Spotify and saving some of the choices to my playlist, while I’m writing this post. See? Super productive!

The day turned out to be really lovely, though, with sunshine, and lots of blue skies, and big puffy white clouds. I had filled the bird feeders a couple of days ago, and we had lots of very happy visitors today, including the wood pecker and a European Robin!

Tomorrow is my first “real” day of work in 3 weeks, though I worked a day on December 29. That day was mostly catching up, wading through emails and handling stuff that was urgent. Monday the crazy starts again, I’m sure. I have a huge pile of things to finalize tomorrow, but have decided, due to weather and road conditions, to work from home. Anders will be here as well, so it will be another quiet, cozy day. 🙂

I think I would be sadder about mom going home if I didn’t know I will be seeing her in just a few months. I have to get on picking dates and planning that trip pretty soon, now. Just have to decide if 3 weeks or 4 weeks is better, and to see if we can afford for the kids to accompany me. Pretty sure Anders can’t get away, but if he can, that would be awesome.

Anders and I have a bunch of shows to catch up on, so this last evening before the real-life routine starts again, will be watching the episodes of På Spåret and For All Mankind that we’ve missed. The holidays are nearly over and 2024 is rolling in!
