ABOUT LAST NIGHT

I am often terrible at remembering to take photos when things are happening. Last night, New Year’s Eve, we had a lovely evening and dinner here at home, with my two best friends Debbie and Camilla, Anders, Debbie’s husband Ola, and my mom, and the only photo I took was a shot of the menu card I made for the table, because Karin wanted to know what we had for dinner.

What we had for dinner:

Crayfish soup

Oxfilé
served with
Potatoes Au Gratin
Bearnaise Sauce
Roasted vegetables (red onions, cauliflower, asparagus, cherry tomatoes)

Crème Brûlée

it was DELICIOUS. Anders cooked all day, and originally he had planned a Gremolata sauce, but he messed something up and added too much lemon juice. So we went to the grocery store to buy the ingredients again so he could remake it but they were completely out of fresh basil, and he decided on bearnaise sauce instead (which I just realized I spelled wrong on the printed menu card, haha).

I drove to Malmö at 5 with Danely and dropped her off at Martin’s place, where he and his friends were planning to eat and hang out until later in the evening. He made creamy crab nachos and it was a big hit (of course). Then I drove to Lund and picked up Camilla, and we got back to the house just before 6:30 when Debbie and Ola arrived.

Debbie had major surgery just 1.5 weeks ago and had been a little unsure about her stamina, but I was so glad she was able to make it. We had an absolutely lovely evening, talking and laughing, and eating. A few hours later we had macarons and Christmas cookies with coffee and tea, and at midnight we opened the front door to see some of the fireworks being set off by Flyinge residents. It was raining quite a lot so we chickened out of actually going outside, but it didn’t matter. Karin called just before midnight so we got to Facetime with her for a few minutes and wish each other a happy new year. 🙂

At around 12:30 am, Martin sent me a text wondering what time I was going to come pick up Danely and that was the impetus for the party to wrap up. I think we could easily have stayed another hour just talking, but it was a good time to end since it was so late, and the others had a 40+ minute ride home. I drove (with mom) to Lund and picked up the kids and we dropped Martin and his friend Thea off at the train station to take the train to Malmö. He had to work today at 1 pm, so he was glad to get home, too. We got home just before 2 am.

Today has been a relatively lazy day so far. We all got up a little late (though not as much I thought we would). Anders put the oven on self-cleaning and washed the rest of the dishes, and we ran the dishwasher. I watered plants and am currently on the third and last load of laundry, and I finished and published a new crossword puzzle. Feeling kinda sleepy so might take a nap, since we are leaving around 6:15 to go to a New Year’s Day concert in Lund: symphony orchestra and opera singing of some sort. It’s been pouring rain all day so our hopes of walking a bit have been pretty well washed away, but that’s okay. A down day is a good day, too. And even if there were no photos, now I’ve written about the evening so it’s preserved in words at least.

I also have become a complete loser when it comes to taking photos… send me some from your trip here…
I have about none from the entire week… so bad.
