POSITIVELY RE-VOLTING

On Thursday, we had our Halloween fika in the afternoon. I had a crazy day as I had a birthday lunch to attend, then a dentist appointment, then had to get back for the fika. The team had decided on a fairly easy costume idea: we went as Marcom afternoon tea in honor of Helen who organized the fika and who has been our party planner, when she’s not been doing her regular assistant to the Vice President of Marketing job. She’s English, you see.

One of my teammates brought fiberduk and we cut it into 2-meter lengths to be the body of the tea bag, and then used flagpole rope and printouts for the teabag tags. It was a pretty funny costume when we all had the teabags on (there were about 10 of us), and Helen was honored, especially since it is the last time she will organize the Halloween party as she’s leaving the company in a couple of weeks.

So, I had not really come up with any good idea for the AIC Halloween party which was yesterday, but I suddenly thought, HEY! I could repurpose those teabag costumes and just draw ghosty faces on them and Anders and I could go as ghosts! Easy-peasy! Except when I got home, and was making the appetizer for the party, and he was supposed to start on the costumes, he suddenly asked me if we could go as a lithium battery instead, if he drew the formula for the batteries on each of the fiberduks. Sure, I said, why not? I thought it was funny, even though no one was going to understand it. And we brought a little battery-powered candle to hold between us as a visual aid.

The party was fun and the food was good, and my asparagus and cream cheese/parmesan pastry puff slices turned out great, if slightly undercooked. And some of my friends demanded to have me on their team for the Halloween trivia game, and we won, so that was cool. 😀 I joked that our costumes, which had to be explained, are what happens when you let the engineer be in charge of costume design.

Tomorrow, we are going to the cemetery in Oxie to light candles for Märta and Einar. We would normally go on Wednesday, which is All Souls Day, but Martin has to work and Anders doesn’t know what time he’ll be home from Kivik, and tomorrow was the only day that works for all of us. And Tuesday is Halloween, which I’m ready for with a HUGE bowl of candy, and then good grief, Charlie Brown, October will be over!
