HOLIDAYS, CASTLES, ANNIVERSARIES, SHOWERS & A QUESTION

It’s gone a week, nearly, and suddenly it’s June. And I’m beginning to have that panicky feeling of “where has the year gone?” It’s nearly half over! Eeek! Christmas will be here before you know it! Haaa! Anders comes home tomorrow from his 3-weeks of jaunting. He’s home for a week, then gone for a week then gone for the weekend, then gone for a week. THEN he’s on vacation, and we still haven’t bought tickets for our trip to Iceland. I don’t even know if we can really afford it. There seems to be no end to the things...

WHERE IT WENT AND WHERE IT GOES

Oh my goodness, where did the week go? It went into single-parenting, crazy busy work-ness, losing Karin in the dark trying to find the place she was practicing in Lund. It went to a planning meeting, pizza 3x in a row, a family birthday party (Anders’ niece), phone calls, sunshine and a yard full of pheasants and jackdaws eating the birdseed. It went to working from home as much as possible, paying bills, translation work, AWC web work, work work work. It went to grocery shopping and an emergency room visit for Karin who busted up 2 fingers at soccer...

DECISIONS, DECISIONS

Honestly, I don’t know where the times goes. I could have sworn I just posted but when I look at my little calendar I see it was last Tuesday! 5 whole days ago! And I suspect it will be another 5 days before I post again as this week is just NUTS. I have something scheduled every day, beyond the usual work work work. Tomorrow we have Parent Meetings at both Martin and Karin’s schools, so we can’t go together. I’m going to Martin’s, and Anders is going to Karin’s, but I really wish we could both get the same...

WE INTERRUPT THIS BROADCAST

I only have one more day of photos from our Italian adventure to edit and post, but I don’t feel like it right now. I’m feeling a bit disappointed (disappointed!) (does anyone else hear Kevin Kline’s voice yelling that every time they use the word?) (No? Just me?) with myself over having posted so very little this past couple of months. Really, I could do better, couldn’t I? I remember the days when I posted all the freaking time. Yeah, glad that’s over with too, but honestly, a LITTLE more effort would be appreciated. Up duff, Slaughter-Ek, etc. It’s just...

THUMBS UP THUMBS DOWN

Like: Sushi lunch today with brief_therapy Dislike: having a million meetings booked this week and next week at work. What gives? I NEVER have meetings! Like: my new boss seems pretty okay Dislike: except that I found out today she’s 10 years younger than me.* sigh Like: that I’m DONE calling, emailing and confirming all of the AWC members and can start finalizing the directory Dislike: the way LJ keeps acting up lately Like: Third Rock From the Sun reruns on Comedy Central Dislike: how many of my photos bounce when I try to upload them to Flickr Like: the...

WHAT’S NEXT, I ASK YOU?

Trip-planning, like party-planning, gives me hives, a headache and a bad attitude. I suppose I should be thrilled at how quickly the Internet and its myriad trip-planning sites can digest the information I give it (dates, places, price requirements) and spit it back out in the form of quickly scanned multiple choice format; nothing could really be easier. However, it’s taken me 3 days and numerous howls for help to my husband and my mom to figure out the best possible combination of departures and arrivals and layovers and airlines and prices. And that was only for 3 of us;...

READY SET GO!

Quite often during the day I come across things that I see or hear or like that I want to remember to share, but by the time I get a chance to actually sit down at the computer and write, usually quite late in the evening, all those things have long since dropped off my brain radar, lying lost and forgotten on the side of my mental meanderings like single shoes that people pass later on the highway and wonder about. There’s no meaning in them, those single shoes. They’re just there: road markers. A million different thoughts zing around...

DOING THE BUSY

Mom and I started scouring photo albums yesterday, to collect all my old school photos, and I’m afraid the school-photo-project is going to have to wait a while…turns out of the 13 years I was in public school (K-12)…I only have FOUR of them. How did that happen? I can’t even find my senior picture and I have a bleached spot in a photo album where it once resided…what the heck happened to it? Why would I have removed it and then never returned it to its spot?? Very strange. So, now mom has to hunt them down at HER...

HOW MANY BALLS CAN YOU KEEP IN THE AIR AT ONCE?

How do you manage anticipation and scheduling when every day has something in it (apart from the usual weekday getting-up-and-going-to-work-thing) and every weekend for the foreseeable future is booked? Especially when it’s not just yourself that you have to keep track of things for, but your entire family? Things that have to be remembered in our household any given week include the following: Monday Gym bag for Martin, Chess club for Martin, remind kids to do their homework (evening) Tuesday Gym bag for Martin & Karin, remind kids to take their homework (morning) and do their homework (evening), Piano lessons...
