DOMESTICALLY INCLINED

Last night, Otto the storm stormed through, with galeforce winds that made the house shake and rattle and all the vents whoosh every once in a while. By 10 pm, it sounded as if we had a freight train going by the house nonstop. I read in bed until close to midnight and it never really let up once. But this morning I woke to sunshine. It clouded over pretty quickly, but the sun is peeking out again now, though there are still clouds and I can see the tops of the trees waving. I filled up the bird feeders...

A NEW MONTH, A NEW POST!

How can it be February already? I’m having flashbacks to my college roommate Chris’ F*ck February parties of the mid-90s, after we had moved to Chicago and were no longer sharing an apartment. She covered the floor of her apartment in beach sand, had blowup palm trees, and the required dress code was Hawaiian shirts and leis. Good times. Believe it or not, I STILL have symptoms: stuffed up head and coughing whenever I talk. It’s now February 2nd, so I’m officially in my second month of being sick, though today was the first day in weeks that I woke...

RETROSPECTIVE

urprisingly, 2022 did not totally suck like the two years before it. Even though COVID finally visited us twice, no one was very ill, and Martin missed it completely. We had a couple of big milestone birthdays, with Anders turning 60 and Martin turning 25, and 2 big, very fun trips, to Rome, and to Bornholm. Mostly, life continues with the usual bumps and ups and downs. I’ve taken 2 weeks of vacation, here at the end of the year, and today is the last day if you don’t count the New Year’s weekend. I start back to work on...

IT’S LIKE 2003 ALL OVER AGAIN!

I can’t remember the last time I was this excited and satisfied about blogging. After the debacle with LJ, I talked to Russell (my all-things-tech-guru) and decided it was time to move on up the road. I’ve been writing on Livejournal since August 6, 2003…nearly 20 years. I suppose I could have waited until next August to make it an even 20, but I am nothing if not impatient. Because commenting wasn’t working for people without LJ accounts, which is many, if not most, of my friends and family, and no info on when or if it would be fixed,...

RETROSPECTIVE

t’s been another crazy pandemic year and it’s still ongoing so I don’t expect a lot from 2022 at this point. We are all managing to stay healthy, even though as I write this Anders is coughing. Both he and Karin came down with colds over Christmas week, but have tested negative multiple times and he’s at the very tail end of his. I am back at work as of Monday but it’s another short week, only 3 days, so a nice soft start to the year. Martin and I just finished the super hard jigsaw puzzle of a map...

OOPS

Apparently, I can only manage being consistent in one space at a time. I’ve been super about posting my daily good things on Facebook but my poor little blog is totally neglected in the meantime. Does anyone care? News at eleven.

SORRY NOT SORRY

Don’t apologize. You don’t have to say you’re sorry for not writing. Don’t think people are checking in every day to see if you’ve bothered to write (and thereby entertain them). No one is waiting on the sidelines for your words, your thoughts, your random scribblings. You just write when the muse strikes. When the timing and the motivation line up and the stars align as well. When Mercury isn’t in retrograde (Mercury’s always in retrograde) (Don’t worry about stupid Mercury, it has no bearing on this). It’s not an assignment. There’s no deadline. There are so many moments when...

CAN YOU COMMENT?

I haven’t been getting many comments lately. I understand from at least two people who read my blog, but who don’t have Livejournal accounts, that they are no longer able to comment and get an error message claiming they are “banned from commenting”. I have checked all my settings and I have NOT banned anyone, and my Livejournal is set to allow commenting from anonymous, non-LJ sources, so I’m at a loss as to what to do. If you can comment (and are not an LJ user), please do so. If you CAN’T, can you please send me a PM...

WALKING ON ICE, WALKING IN SUNSHINE

Unprecendented amounts of sunshine so far this week, and I’m loving it. But it’s cold…brrrr, is it cold. So cold that when I went to scrape the ice off the car windows, I discovered most of it was on the INSIDE. So cold that I am able to let out my inner dragon, blowing iced breath and roaring under it. Here in Flyinge, the cold stays close to the ground. The snow we had weeks ago, enough to cover the yards and streets and the tops of the hedges, is still there, albeit eroded at the edges. On the streets,...

TOP OF MIND

It’s pretty amazing what our brains can do. I’ve been thinking a lot about memory lately. I’ve read a lot about the brain, but I don’t really know all that much, technically speaking. I am just really glad that it can keep so much straight! So many important details that we have constant and instant access to: personal info, contact info, memories. Just the fact that we have so much information on tap inside our heads at all times, without even the help of Google, is mind-blowing (ha!). On top of the important things we need to remember and keep...
