A NEW MONTH, A NEW POST!

How can it be February already? I’m having flashbacks to my college roommate Chris’ F*ck February parties of the mid-90s, after we had moved to Chicago and were no longer sharing an apartment. She covered the floor of her apartment in beach sand, had blowup palm trees, and the required dress code was Hawaiian shirts and leis. Good times.

Believe it or not, I STILL have symptoms: stuffed up head and coughing whenever I talk. It’s now February 2nd, so I’m officially in my second month of being sick, though today was the first day in weeks that I woke up when the alarm went off, and thought, hmmm, I feel okay. I’ve been working from home all week, though I’ve been starting about 20-30 minutes later than usual. But working hard and catching up, and getting lots done, despite not being able to talk much without coughing up a lung. Hopefully by Monday, the last of this will be gone and I’ll be back to normal. Fingers crossed.

I finished a really entertaining book today that I got in the AIC media sale for 10 kronor at the beginning of this week: The Diary of a Bookseller by Shaun Bythell. It was funny and I zoomed through it. Upon Googling a bit, it turns out he has written several books. How awful am I that I might order them on Kindle? Because I don’t buy physical books anymore, but it feels particularly mean to buy books electronically that were written by someone who makes his livelihood from running a secondhand bookstore…while also, apparently, finding time to write several books. Lisel stopped by tonight to pick up a gift certificate for a friend’s birthday lunch that I am missing tomorrow (can’t justify going to lunch if I can’t get into the office to work), and I gave the book to her. She’s a book fiend, too, so I know she’ll appreciate it.

Martin called from Lund as Anders and I were finishing dinner, all excited because he has gotten a lead on a possible apartment. I really hope it works out…he’s definitely ready to get the hell out of his parents’ house again. 🙂 The crate is on its way from Rotterdam to Sweden now, as well, and expected to arrive in the next 2 weeks. Most of the stuff in it is his, and he has NO room at all in his room. It’s packed to the gills as it is with stuff, and the crate has furniture, clothing, and tons of miscellaneous things. He definitely needs his own place so he can spread out. And so I can stop nagging him to clean up his room, and stop leaving dishes in it, etc., etc.

Anders leaves early Saturday morning for a week skiing in Canazei, Italy, where Karin is. I’m envious that he will see her, but not enough to plan a week at a ski resort when I don’t ski. 🙂 He’ll be gone for a week, and it’s the third week he’ll be gone so far this year, though the other two were for work (and were both while I was sick). That means that I’ll be charge of picking up Martin from the bus stop when he gets off late shifts, and possibly getting him TO the bus stop super early when he works the morning shift. Ugh. Oh well, it’s not that often. Most of the time he can get himself to and from Flyinge by bus, or Anders gets him. It’s only the weekends that are an issue, since there are no buses to or from Flyinge. I’ll be taking Anders early to the train station Saturday morning, and then have to pick up Martin late that night, so hoping I can nap at some point during the day, haha!

Things I’m looking forward to in the near future: Melodifestivalen, Funny Girl at Malmö Opera, finally seeing my friends Debbie & Camilla
