WALKING THE DOG

Martin and I picked up Mental the dog after school/work and he was happy to see us…though maybe he’s happy to see everyone. Dogs remember people, though, so even though it’s been awhile, we’re pretty sure he remembers us. 🙂 We waved goodbye to 1222 and drove home. We really like Mental. He’s obedient and sweet and bouncy and he doesn’t yank your arm out of its socket when you are walking. Martin and I took him for a walk after we ate; about 40 minutes in the wet dark evening, just to reacquaint him with the neighborhood. It felt...

16 THINGS FOR THE 16TH DAY

1. We are almost completely out of toilet paper. Someone emptied the stock without writing it on the shopping list, prompting an angry harangue from me. Everyone insisted on their innocence, so it was apparently NOTME that did it. 2. We have friends coming over for dinner tonight that we haven’t seen in ages. Anders is making a feasty menu that includes pulled pork sandwiches, spare ribs, American coleslaw and twice-baked potatoes. I am adding a green salad and making dessert: white chocolate & raspberry pastries with ice cream and mini-meringues. 3. I dusted the house and now I can’t...

ADVENTURES IN MYSKVÄLL

Karin is gone overnight, playing night soccer and sleeping over at a friend’s house. Anders was watching a documentary about a Dutch photographer, so Martin and I decided to watch a movie…but we couldn’t decide what to watch. Everything I suggested he turned up his nose at and vice versa. Then we agreed on The Artist, but after a lengthy search, we couldn’t FIND it. AUGH. Where is my copy of The Artist?? Did I loan it out to someone? No. It’s gotta be here somewhere. I tried again to get him to watch The Fall, which is one of...

MOTIVATION IS WHAT GETS YOU STARTED. HABIT IS WHAT KEEPS YOU GOING.*

Most weekday mornings The alarm goes off. I reach over and turn it off and get up. I slip on my house shoes and go to the bathroom without turning on any lights. Then I come back and still without turning on any lights, get underthings from my dresser, and in the (still dark) closet) pants and a top. Sometimes I turn the light on and stare at my clothes for a few minutes, but usually it’s a pretty quick selection process. Then I go back to the bathroom and get in the shower. Soap, shampoo, conditioner, shave if necessary,...

BITE-SIZED AND PERSONAL*

I don’t think I’ve made it a secret how much I love cookies. But I actually don’t eat them all that often. And I almost NEVER make them. Because if I did, and when I do, I stuff my face with them until they’re gone. Mmmm cookies! I don’t remember that my mom made cookies all the time or that there were cookies in the house all the time, but we were definitely not cookie-deprived. My mom’s mom ALWAYS had cookies on hand, though. Always chocolate chips and ginger snaps. Soft ones. Chewy ones. NOBODY beats my grandma’s molasses ginger...

WAHOOO!!

Guess what!! They just opened up a new floor in our wing of the building I moved to at work 2.5 years ago, and some of the people from our department moved downstairs. Which frees up a bunch of space on our floor, which is great, because we have been really crammed, and struggling to find desks for everyone, and there have been lots of terrible, though creative, attempts to make room or find space or squash too many people into too small areas in order to give people a place to work, and it’s been kind of a drag....

GOOD STUFF NOW AND TO COME

This weekend was another one filled with good things, the things I like best for weekends: getting things done, reading, sleeping in, sushi, meals cooked by my husband…today he made a fantastic American Sunday brunch with hash browns, bacon, scrambled eggs and flapjacks with maple syrup. It was in honor of Swedish Father’s Day, and you might wonder why HE had to make the breakfast but that would mean you didn’t read yesterday’s post. It was delicious. Then he got to open his Father’s Day presents which were comprised of booze and candy, so hopefully he felt it was all...
