AND THE CRAP MONTH OF THE YEAR AWARD GOES TO…

Lund had only 18 hours of sunshine for the entire month of November. C’mon December, go go, you can do it! So far, I’ve “wasted” an hour of work time surfing the web. Wonder if I can set a record. I wonder if there IS a record. Guiness, I’m coming for ya, baby!

HIT THAT PERFECT BEAT, BOY

Conversation during glögg party last night when we were discussing bilingualism in our children and I made a comment about Martin having begun to differentiate languages when he was around 2.5 years old: Barbara: Well, yes, but I’ve always thought that Martin was exceptionally bright. Me: (deprecatingly) Yes, he is, well, he… Barbara: He must have gotten it from you, I bet. Me: Well, um, I wouldn’t call myself exceptionally bright *long pause* but you all can! (general laughter) Conversation with my sister this evening wherein the topic of discussion was children’s birthday parties: Sarah (who is having her daughter’s...

LOLOLOL

Laughed until I cried after reading this in Mimi Smartypants‘ archives: You know these little capsules that you put in warm water and a foam animal emerges? Do you? Well, get some. And do them inside your mouth, with beer. This was great fun recently, at a bar with Kat I had one in my mouth, almost finished exploding, when a guy sat down near us and said, “Hi” in that I’m-going-to-chat-you-up way. I held up a finger to say, “Wait a minute,” leaned over the bar, and spat a foam brontosaurus onto the bar top. He didn’t stay long....

1 DOWN, 1 TO GO

Busy weekend days, that is. We had a birthday party for Martin today: 10 kids for 2 hours. It went really well, because we had a schedule, of sorts, and Anders kept the kids entertained for at least half an hour with Engineer Lindström’s Experiment Theater. He showed them how to make a wave machine, a water microscope from a milk carton, how to make a milk carton blow smoke rings, how to make an egg sink in water, and magic tricks to boot. 🙂 Then we had the di rigeur “hotdogs with bread,” whipped cream cake and a candy...

TURN AND FACE THE STRANGER

Penelope is very kindly handing out weekend passes to those of us who just have too damn much to do. I will, however, have to take a rain check on it until after Christmas, I suspect, as this weekend is the first of several weekends with absolutely NO FREE TIME. Today, I’m going to have fika with a woman I’ve never met. She’s been a member of the AWC for 4 years and is nearing 80 and has never been to a single event. I talk to her several times a year, but despite the fact that I live only...

CHICAGO ENVY

Next week practically everyone on my floor at work, and everyone in my department, except me, will be at a big trade show in California. I’m totally stoked about this, even though I’ll probably be bored silly by the end of the week. Christmas vacation just can’t get here soon enough. Had an email from my brother yesterday that he and Simone are definitely coming up for Christmas week, woo hoo!! Now if we could just figure a way to get my sister to Europe, things would be sweet. I didn’t go to choir last night, which totally sucked, because...

500 ALBUMS

Well, I used to be a musically ahead-of-my-time girl and was so cool that most people had never heard of the hip, happening artists on my CD shelf, ahem. Obviously, that was back in the day. Looked over Rolling Stone’s list of 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, and while I’ve got lots of mixed tapes/CDs and greatest hits of the artists listed, but not the original albums…it made me realize how much of a Greatest Hits Collections girl I am, heh. I’ve got compilation CDs up the wazoo. Love them. Can’t get enough o’ them best of beauties.
