BLUE SKIES & LONG WEEKENDS

O! Long weekend, how I am happy to see you! It’s Wednesday evening, a half-day today that ended even earlier since I had a doctor’s appointment to get my hurty shoulder checked out (inflammation, referral to naprapat, possible cortisone injection if that doesn’t work) at 11:30. The wind was blowing hard this morning but now it’s cool and still and the sky is so blue it hurts…not a cloud in sight. We have no plans for the weekend to go anywhere or do anything special…though some of us have things we want to do. Anders is going biking with friends...

IN THE MIDDLE OF MAY

Karin stayed home sick again today: another sore throat. She missed two days of school last week, and I suspect she’ll be home tomorrow, too. She’s zombied out on the couch, didn’t even wake up for dinner, so I know she’s REALLY not feeling well. I took her to the clinic this morning, because after she said that her throat was hurting really bad and the glands were really swollen I thought, what the hell? and printed out the absentee record. She missed 6 days of school in the last 20 weeks, 7 if you count today. All for sore...

THINGS I AM THINKING ABOUT

The yellow of the rapeseed. The horses out back. The black cat that hangs out on the neighbor’s porch across the street but never seems to get let inside. The fact that the lilacs are almost here. ALMOST! The way the sky went blue and the clouds went puff and the rain went away. The way the lights bends down to bless us in the evening. The funeral for Anders’ father. Weight-loss. Walking. Surgery. Eye infections. The fact that Karin stayed home with a sore throat again today for the 45,589,382,411th time this year. The fact that I have to...

BRAIIIINS

I’ve got crazyworkbrain. Can’t stop thinking about it, stressing, etc. GAH. I wake up at 4:30 a.m. or 5:30 a.m. or 6:00 a.m. and can’t get back to sleep because crazyworkbrain starts right up. No matter how fast we work or how much we do, the amount that is left to do is the same or more when we leave each day. *sigh* Good thing I love my job, eh? On the plus side, (haaa!) I’m also obsessed with Treadmill Time. Every day when I come home, it’s the first thing I do. 20 minutes minimum and usually up to...

INSIDE OUTSIDE UPSIDE DOWN

It has started out as a very very bad week. I got the news Monday morning that our graphic designer in the US quit. In addition, one of the freelancers that we really rely on is seriously ill and doesn’t know when she’ll be able to start working again. Work was insane to begin with and all this just pushes my team and I to the brink. URGH. I had planned to take a week of vacation in 2 weeks because I have 6 days that I have to use or lose by April 1st and now, I honestly don’t...

ALL THE NEWS THAT’S FIT TO PRINT

A friend of mine recently told me that she started the Couch25K program and couldn’t understand what had happened in her brain to even make her want to TRY it. This morning, a Sunday morning, a Sunday morning with NO PLANS and a rather late night last night, I woke up at 7:30 a.m. I managed to doze off again, but then I reawoke just before 9 and all I could think about was getting up and getting on the treadmill. WTH? So I did. I speed-walked for 30 minutes, for a total of 2K. Before 10:30 a.m. on a...

THAR SHE BLOWS

We’re in the middle of storm number 2 so far this winter…60 mile per hour winds: it sounds like a freight train outside. It’s not cold enough for snow, but the forecast is for sleet. We’ve lost power already once, right as I was preparing dinner, so our halfway-heated mashed potatoes were warmed with the bernaise sauce that Anders had JUST finished making. Thankfully the schnitzels were already done! It could go out again any moment, so this will be a short one just in case. I have my list of Christmas cards to start working on, plus Martin’s birthday...

TO FREAKING DO

Went to gather the cookie-making stuff and discovered that I have: 1 bag of peanut butter chips 1 bag of cinnamon chips 1 bag of raspberry chips 1/4 bag of white chocolate chips 2 bags of butterscotch chips 1/2 bag of chocolate chips I need at least THREE bags of chocolate chips and since I can’t get to a store that has them until Monday evening and the cookies have to be MADE TOMRROW, I will have to go buy baking chocolate and chop it up. Drrrr. However, in the midst of hunting for the chocolate chips I discovered that...

AUTUMNAL

Darn it, I swear I’m going to write more, be present, and then time gets away from me and I realize I AM being present, just not here. All year long, people here in southern Sweden have been exclaiming in wonder about the weather. The sunshine, the blue skies, the perfect temperatures. It was a perfect spring, a fantastic summer and now a stunningly gorgeous fall. The leaves on the trees outshine the sun in a revolving spectrum of all the best colors nature’s got on offer. It’s hard to keep your eyes on the road when you’re driving, as...
