WHAT I DID ON MY SUMMER VACATION

We had several people boggle at us when we made the announcement that we had chosen Toronto for our BIG birthday trip. Even the border patrol goggled at my sister on her way into the Canada, when she answered the question about whether she was entering the country for business or leisure. “What the heck are you going to do in Toronto for a week?” he sputtered. Granted it wasn’t our first choice, but it turned out to be a good one. We had a fantastic time, and I’ve got the photos to prove it!

NEVER ENOUGH

All weekend I’ve been planning to edit and post photos from our trip to Toronto (almost wrote “trip to vacation”) but the weekend has been so busy that suddenly it’s nearly bedtime on Sunday evening and the farthest I’ve managed to get is opening Photoshop. Jet lag seems to be pretty much gone…just the dregs of it left, but that could be regular afternoon fatigue. I can’t believe I have to work 5-day weeks from now until eternity. We had all these short weeks in spring; it was crazy! Like 6 in a row or something and now? Nothing until...

A WEEK IN VĂ…NEVIK IN PHOTOS

Everyone took lots of photos while John and Simone were visiting, which makes me really happy. It’s ridiculous that we let 2 years pass since the last time we saw them. It’s not like they live on the other side of the ocean…It’s 2 years since I’ve seen my sister and her family as well, but since they DO live on the other side of the ocean, it at least make some sense. Plus we’ll get to see them in just a few more weeks, so yay! Simone and the boys flew up to Copenhagen the day after Midsummer Eve...

WHEN A WEEK OR MORE WHIZZES BY

Good things for remembering The sounds a baby makes when he’s content Walking and talking with my husband during the long hospital wait A woozy Martin smiling from the recovery room bed Simone’s Maultaschen, yum yum! The green and blue of leaves and water The way Sammy runs: flat-out Reading Blue Hat Green Hat to Sammy and laughing like loons Spotify quizzes with John and Anders and the kids Simone’s victory dance when Germany won the group game against the USA in the World Cup Not needing the fans we brought and being able to have the bedroom window cracked...

ANTICIPATION

Wheeee! Vacation! At least a week plus 1 day, plus 2 weekends, so altogether 10 days off! I didn’t get everything done that I wanted to at work, but it wasn’t my fault…late responses or no responses from people I was waiting for answers from, and a miscalculation with an IT person that came to fix a problem and ended up making it worse so that I lost nearly an hour and a half of working time. But, whatever: vacation! Martin has to have surgery on his arm. We went to the hospital call-back on Wednesday, a week after the...

FILLING TIME

We’re halfway through the long weekend and once again I would like it to never end, plskthx. Think I’m ready for vacation?? O yes, indeed. And now I have 2 full weeks before my first week of vacation and then 3 full weeks before the rest of, which granted, is 4 weeks, so I will have to suck it up and wait. Still: so hard! Yesterday was Sweden’s National Day, the reason for this particular long weekend, as opposed to Ascension Day (last weekend’s reason) or whatever the reasons were for all the long weekends back in the beginning of...

MUSIC SO NICE

I’ve been obsessed with Spotify lately…I went through the million lists of all the songs on all my mixed tapes from college and after (80s! 90s!) and added all the best stuff. Since then I’ve been haunting the Discover and Browse functions and the app We Are Hunted which finds trending music mentioned on social media. Lots of good stuff out there. Still, several artists that I love aren’t on Spotify or only have limited selections of their work available. I’m looking at you, Peter Gabriel. Where is General Public? And Grace Pool? And Loey Nelson?? And why isn’t Vienna...

WALKING ON SUNSHINE

So far, this has been an absolutely wonderful and relaxing long weekend and there’s still the rest of this evening and all of tomorrow to enjoy of it. Karin is up in Gothenburg, participating in the Future Cup Invitational, as goalie for her team. They are playing in the semi-final game tonight, but we can hopefully keep track of the match progress live on the website. They won their first 3 games and she only let in one goal, so she was sounding quite happy when I talked to her a couple of hours ago. Yesterday, we had some good...

SHE WORKS HARD FOR THE MONEY

I love spring in Sweden. It’s not just the daffodils everywhere or the way the fuchsia glows in the lengthening light or the sheen of green that pours itself over every rolling hill. It’s the SHORT WORK WEEKS. Easter is super late this year, and because of it, I have this to look forward to: This week: 3.5 days of work Followed by a: 4.5 day weekend Followed by: 4 days of work Followed by: 2.5 days of work Followed by a: 4.5 day weekend And then at the end of May? Another 2.5 day work week, followed by ANOTHER...

WHAT’S UP

It is such a long time since I posted that I feel like the veriest tyro. A blogging beginner. Again! Today was spelunking day, and on Monday I got sick with a massive head cold. …NOOOO. I was determined that NOTHING was going to hinder today’s appointment so I medicated and rested and took half a day off and another morning, and by today I was fine, though a bit stuffy in the nose, still. Compounded by allergies, I am ALWAY stuffy in the nose, so I figured I could get away with it. Off to Landskrona we went, and...
