A STORY I FORGOT TO TELL

I read this poem this evening and it hit me. Prayer by Marie Howe Every day I want to speak with you. And every day something more important calls for my attention—the drugstore, the beauty products, the luggage I need to buy for the trip. Even now I can hardly sit here among the falling piles of paper and clothing, the garbage trucks outside already screeching and banging. The mystics say you are as close as my own breath. Why do I flee from you? My days and nights pour through me like complaints and become a story I forgot...

BUSY WEEKEND BEE

I’ve been back at work for 3 weeks and it’s been non-stop crazy, with no end in sight. And tons going on around work in the rest of my life, too. Today, however, I have the house to myself until evening at least, and while I’ve been up since 6:30 and busy ever since, I’m taking a moment to stop what I’m working on and write something. Yesterday, I talked to my spine doctor to find out about logistics for when and if I decide to go for the neck operation. I wanted to be able to factor in timing...

THREE WEEKS OF LOVE

Mom and Sarah came back with us to Sweden, from Bornholm. Three weeks! Luxury! It was so nice to have them here, and of course, as always, the time went too fast, and they have already left and returned home to the US. Since they had to share a bed in Germany and on Bornholm, we gave them separate bedrooms at our place (since Karin isn’t living at home it wasn’t too difficult). We had lots of things on the calendar for their visit, and we added a whole pile of stuff as well that Sarah wanted to do since...

RELAX TO THE MAX

I have a feeling that posting will be light for awhile, if I don’t manage to write anything else before vacation. I have 3.5 more days (half because Thursday morning I have the MRI appointment) of work, and MAN, do I have short-timers syndrome. I am SO ready for vacation. All my co-workers are back in the office and the first thing they ask, of course, was how was your summer vacation? and when I say I haven’t had it yet, the look of shock on their faces is hilarious. And then pitying, as they realize that means I have...

JUST WHAT I NEEDED

I think this coming week is the last of the dead weeks, and then people will start coming back to work. If things start ramping up, that’s quite alright with me, even though I am still not done with the “projects to do if no work is coming in”. Last week, because I was sick, I ended up working all week from home. I plan to work at least tomorrow and Tuesday in the office, then hope to work the rest at home again, because after that everyone will be back and I’ll have to be onsite more than not....

BUSY IS THE NEW HAPPY

This coming week and the one after are the two deadest weeks of the year; the weeks when everyone is Sweden is still on vacation and everyone in mainland Europe is just starting. Last week there were about 6 of us on the floor, and this week, I’ll be surprised if there are even 4 of us. I’m working from home tomorrow (Monday) and then again Thursday and Friday, so I won’t be lifting the count in the office, for sure. Today, Debbie and Camilla and I went to Katrinetorp outside of Malmö for lunch in their lovely garden café...

A WEEKEND FULL OF GOOD THINGS

It’s a super busy weekend! On Friday, I got together with my best friends, Debbie and Camilla. We hadn’t seen each other in just over a month, because Debbie was in Canada with her family for 4 weeks, and every time Camilla and I tried to get together, one of us was busy. So, we had a lot to catch up on. We met at Camilla’s apartment and ate the takeaway dinner I had picked up on the way. At one point, I remember thinking, “good grief, we are so loud” but it was because we had so much to...

WHAT I HAVE TO SHOW FOR THE LAST 2 WEEKS

I’ve completely lost the motivation to write here, which is weird considering that I think about it all the time. Why doesn’t that translate to sitting down and writing something? I have no idea but I’m not going to spend any time beating myself up about it. It is what it is. No posts equals no comments but since posts don’t garner comments either, it’s a moot point. The last post I wrote was on February 21st. Here’s a list of things that have happened since then: took a day off and spent it in Copenhagen with Debbie and Camilla,...

FLEXIBLE AND FORWARD-MOVING

Today is the autumnal solstice. It’s been a week of really cold temps, steady winds, rain, and cloud cover, but today was lovely. Warm and sunny and just what I needed. Today’s the last day this week working from home, and my shoulders are up around my ears. Work is intense as always and we’re already feeling the fall crunch and that’s before we’ve really gotten started on monster project season. Last night, I prepped dinner, chopping all the veggies, pressing garlic and setting the table. Anders was out in the garage getting Karin’s car prepped as he was going...

TWO KINDS OF PEOPLE, TWO KINDS OF TIME

I’ve been thinking a lot about time passing lately. My father died when he was 56 and because I have a lot of the same issues he did, healthwise, though with one major difference, this year…the year I am 56, has been a little fraught for me, mentally. Like many adults, I often boggle about how fast time goes. I read once that it has to do with the fact that as an adult, you’ve already done many things at least once, and therefore, they seem to go faster the second (or third or eleventyth) time around, because you know...
