27 YEARS AND COUNTING

It’s our wedding anniversary today. We’ve been married since June 1, 1996. That’s 27 years. Pretty crazy to think about! We aren’t doing anything today, celebrating, or having dinner, or anything, because Anders is away all week up north in Kumla. He comes home tomorrow, but I already have plans for dinner and a show with Debbie and Camilla. It’s also Debbie’s birthday today. Her husband is ALSO traveling, and I just sent her a text asking her why the two of us didn’t get together and do something, which she laughed at. We don’t usually do much for our...

SPRINGISH THINGS

It’s officially spring here in southern Sweden, despite being still February and a full week away from March. Sweden’s meteorological office, SMHI, defines spring as having arrived if the temperature has been above freezing for a week. I call borderline bullshit though, since I had to scrape my car windows this morning and it was ONE degree Celsius at 8 am, which means it was definitely freezing or below overnight (again). We’re still wearing winter coats, scarves, and gloves, though I’ve haven’t worn my heaviest winter coat for a few weeks now…which is nice because it weighs a ton. And...

BACKWARDS AND FORWARDS, OR BOTH

I keep thinking that maybe I should keep a journal or notation somewhere of medical issues so that I have a record of things that are wrong with me, when I’m sick, when I’ve had to go to the doctor and for what, but somehow I never get around to starting it. Is it because I don’t REALLY want to admit that medical issues are a thing, even though I seem to be dealing with one thing after another, constantly. I don’t know if it’s just because I’m aging, or just having a run of bad luck, medically speaking, or...

RETROSPECTIVE

urprisingly, 2022 did not totally suck like the two years before it. Even though COVID finally visited us twice, no one was very ill, and Martin missed it completely. We had a couple of big milestone birthdays, with Anders turning 60 and Martin turning 25, and 2 big, very fun trips, to Rome, and to Bornholm. Mostly, life continues with the usual bumps and ups and downs. I’ve taken 2 weeks of vacation, here at the end of the year, and today is the last day if you don’t count the New Year’s weekend. I start back to work on...

A STORY I FORGOT TO TELL

I read this poem this evening and it hit me. Prayer by Marie Howe Every day I want to speak with you. And every day something more important calls for my attention—the drugstore, the beauty products, the luggage I need to buy for the trip. Even now I can hardly sit here among the falling piles of paper and clothing, the garbage trucks outside already screeching and banging. The mystics say you are as close as my own breath. Why do I flee from you? My days and nights pour through me like complaints and become a story I forgot...

BUSY WEEKEND BEE

I’ve been back at work for 3 weeks and it’s been non-stop crazy, with no end in sight. And tons going on around work in the rest of my life, too. Today, however, I have the house to myself until evening at least, and while I’ve been up since 6:30 and busy ever since, I’m taking a moment to stop what I’m working on and write something. Yesterday, I talked to my spine doctor to find out about logistics for when and if I decide to go for the neck operation. I wanted to be able to factor in timing...

THREE WEEKS OF LOVE

Mom and Sarah came back with us to Sweden, from Bornholm. Three weeks! Luxury! It was so nice to have them here, and of course, as always, the time went too fast, and they have already left and returned home to the US. Since they had to share a bed in Germany and on Bornholm, we gave them separate bedrooms at our place (since Karin isn’t living at home it wasn’t too difficult). We had lots of things on the calendar for their visit, and we added a whole pile of stuff as well that Sarah wanted to do since...

RELAX TO THE MAX

I have a feeling that posting will be light for awhile, if I don’t manage to write anything else before vacation. I have 3.5 more days (half because Thursday morning I have the MRI appointment) of work, and MAN, do I have short-timers syndrome. I am SO ready for vacation. All my co-workers are back in the office and the first thing they ask, of course, was how was your summer vacation? and when I say I haven’t had it yet, the look of shock on their faces is hilarious. And then pitying, as they realize that means I have...

JUST WHAT I NEEDED

I think this coming week is the last of the dead weeks, and then people will start coming back to work. If things start ramping up, that’s quite alright with me, even though I am still not done with the “projects to do if no work is coming in”. Last week, because I was sick, I ended up working all week from home. I plan to work at least tomorrow and Tuesday in the office, then hope to work the rest at home again, because after that everyone will be back and I’ll have to be onsite more than not....

BUSY IS THE NEW HAPPY

This coming week and the one after are the two deadest weeks of the year; the weeks when everyone is Sweden is still on vacation and everyone in mainland Europe is just starting. Last week there were about 6 of us on the floor, and this week, I’ll be surprised if there are even 4 of us. I’m working from home tomorrow (Monday) and then again Thursday and Friday, so I won’t be lifting the count in the office, for sure. Today, Debbie and Camilla and I went to Katrinetorp outside of Malmö for lunch in their lovely garden café...
