FANGIRL

It’s been a busy weekend. Yesterday, my friend Camilla and I drove up to Gothenburg for the big Book Fair (Bökmässan). It claims to be the biggest cultural event in Scandinavia and has been going on since 1985. I’ve been a handful of times but it’s been several years since the last time. The only reason I went this year was because Laini Taylor was going to be one of the seminar guests. I’ve been following Laini’s blog practically since I started blogging myself. She’s an artist and author and has written several fantasy novels that are top notch as...

TWEENAGER! (DAMMIT)

Edited to say: if my math impairment doesn’t once again trip me up and if that isn’t THE MOST TYPICAL THING I COULD HAVE DONE, I don’t know what is. *sigh* Yesterday, my little Livejournal became a teenager turned 12! That’s right, I’ve been writing here, right here, in this spot for 13 12 years! Back in 2003, blogs were the new and cool thing to do. EVERYONE was blogging. It was Gale, a friend from the AWC, who really got me started. She still blogs too but not so much, and since she moved to Copenhagen years ago, I...

OMG SO SCINTILLATING

I am scintillating. Read on and see for yourself. I had so little to do at work today that I went through and cleaned out our two cabinets full of archived marketing materials. Then I came home, put the laundry in the dryer and fell asleep on the couch. I woke up only because the dryer was beeping, just as Anders came home from getting his hair cut. I sat at the kitchen table with my chin in my hands and bemoaned the fact that I didn’t have any ideas for making dinner until Anders caved in and made macaroni...

KIBBLES AND BITS

Martin managed to rip holes in the seat of two pairs of pants this past week, so I had pants shopping on the agenda yesterday. When Karin heard that we were going she announced that she needed pants, too (since she only has 2 pairs, MOM), and I wanted to go to a specific store at one of the nearby malls that carries clothes in my size because my friend Debbie had the prettiest shirt on at the jewelry swap on Friday night and when I asked her where it was from, she said she’d just gotten it. I asked...

SHE SAID HE SAID WE SAID

Being interviewed is weird. What makes it at least a little easier is when the interviewer is a friend. Yesterday, I was interviewed by a blog friend who asked me to participate in his new series of podcasts on people he knows “with interesting lives.” “Ha!” I thought…”I think you think I’m more interesting than I actually am.” But he persisted, and I agreed, since you know I HAVE been interviewed before, at least 3 times since I moved to Sweden, which totally makes me a professional interviewee, right? And I agreed because I trust him. I’ve been reading his...

SOUPY

One reason for liking autumn is that it’s soup weather. I’ve always had a soft spot for soups and I eat them all year round. Cans of certain Cambell’s soups that I can’t get over here are one of the few things that I consistently bring back home with me from the States. I really miss chicken noodle soups, which can rarely be found here in Sweden. But there is something about the chill in the air that makes me want to MAKE them, and not just open a can. gnostraeh also has a thing for soups and she’s been...

A LITTLE BIT OF THIS, A LITTLE BIT OF THAT

For some stupid reason, Martin’s school did not do individual school photos this year. Or else he missed the day and didn’t find out if there was a make-up day. I have heard from two other friends with kids his age that their schools didn’t do photos either. WTH? Now I have to find time to take him to a photographer if I don’t want to have a gaping hole in the parade o’ school photos that every child’s life (at least in the Western world) is not complete without. Warning: this post is going to be all over the...

NO NO BLO PO MO

I was thinking about doing NaNoBloPoMoHOHO this year but I missed the first of November and honestly? I have no idea what to write about most days. Or I’m too tired. Or I’m busy. Or distracted (have you played Find the Line?). Or forgetful. In short, I am lame.
