MOO

Lordy, 4 days is a lot to try and catch up on. I’ve been trying mightily, and am nearly back to Friday, but then I suddenly realize you’re all writing MORE RIGHT NOW! aagh! *pants* So, even though I’m reading, I can’t possibly ALSO comment on everything because I’d be here until the cows come home. The cows usually come home when it gets dark out, but in my case, they’d be standing in the field all night, getting dewy all over their black and white backs, looing softly and sadly, and looking with big brown eyes at the lights...

IN WHICH A LIST IS THINLY DISGUISED AS CONTENT

Good god, I think I have blogger’s block. ~ taps fingers on desk ~ ~ scratches chin ~ ~ tilts head back, stares at ceiling, mutters hmmmmmmmm ~ ~ sighs ~ ~ gets out the jumper cables ~ *** # of days gone by during which I forgot to pay the mortgage: 10 # of apologies I received at work today: 2 # of declarations of love I received at work today: 1 What the declaration of love was for, which sort of negates the excitement: a spiffed-up Powerpoint presentation Special home-made Spanish lunch I was invited to tomorrow which...

FIRST NAME BASIS

Man, I’m tired. I’m so tired my eyes feel stretched and red and rubbery around the insides, as if my eyeballs had receded.* I felt, at 6:30 p.m, as if I could go to sleep and sleep for 24 hours. But I went back online to check email after fighting off the sleep monster for a short amount of time, and Sam has posted, and she’s okay! *happy dance* And then I wrote you all a note. Jennifer, don’t sweat the small stuff. And don’t let the big stuff ruin the good stuff. Hang in there. Carolyn, I hope and...

IN WHICH I BEG YOUR INDULGENCE

Something cool about having your birthday on August 10th: It’s celebrated by the HEAVENS every year!* But this year, I can’t even watch because, well, if you looked out my window and saw how THICK the cloud cover is…sigh You know what I would like to have? A book, a handmade book, with each page contributed by one of YOU. A page that you sketch, draw, paint, write, doodle, collage, a page of wonderful whatevers that represent YOU. A friendship book, sort of like a slambook, but much nicer. Wouldn’t that be cool? I would treasure it, I would. Would...

UP, DOWN, ALL AROUND

What Makes Me Happy: The sun is shining today, and it’s warm, but not too warm, with a light and ruffling breeze, and not humid, and the clouds sweep by without stopping, o joy! What Makes Me Mad: Setting up the sun lounger on the deck, filling a tall glass with ice and juice, grabbing the book I’m nearly finished reading, settling myself to enjoy some time in the sun…and being chased indoors after 15 minutes by the hordes of flies that will NOT LEAVE ME ALONE. ARGH!! What Makes Me Sad: Not being able to finish my very last...

WIRED 4 SOUND

My MOTHER is giving me shit about the lack of substantial updates in my journal lately. Boys, girls, pens, pencils…what’s wrong with this picture?? GET YOUR OWN DAMN BLOG, MOM! Haaaa! Although, considering what happened the last time I managed to persuade a family member to start their own LJ, I guess we’ll just let sleeping blogs lie. I organized the couple-of-year’s worth of photos that had accumulated in the study yesterday and put them into 2 photo albums. I realized, while I was sorting them, that most of them had come from other people’s cameras: my mom’s, my brother’s,...

ADMITTANCES

As I was walking back to the car after dropping the kids off this morning, I passed a green corner of well-cared for, summer-leafed shrubs. No one was near me, but I could hear a snuffly panting low-voiced hih hih hih. I looked around, a bit perplexed. It was coming from under the shrubs. Perhaps the Toby lookalike that hangs out at the daycare occasionally was huffing up an early-morning hairball? I bent down and looked under the skirts of the shrubbery. 2 pairs of button eyes glanced my way before returning to their amorous activities. Hedgehog Love! Why can...

LOOKING FOR INSPIRATION

I was feeling particularly blank today. I am not sure why, but it probably has something to do with the moon or the rain or the numbers at the wrong end of the temperature scale. Perhaps I’m just tired, which isn’t wholly out of the realm of probability with me on any given day. I don’t like feeling blank, and I don’t WANT to feel blank. I sat here and stared at the screen for several minutes and nothing, but nothing, came to me. I thought earlier about some things to write about, but inspiration has flown off elsewhere and...
