DOGS & BLOGS

I think we fall a bit in love with every subsequent dog that we babysit. THIS dog, however, was really hard to give up. He was just the most darling thing ever and all of us enjoyed his company so much. I’ve told berchshill that I really hope she’ll keep us in mind the next time they need a dogsitter. The kids were out in the snow with Mental every day, playing fetch. We went for a long walk today in the brilliant sunshine, and later he kept putting his head on my knee to be scritched and I hugged...

CONFESSIONS

As it stands right now, I could never be a vegetarian because: mmmmmmmmm, bacon. I have zero interest in the dream you had last night. My favorite holiday used to be Halloween, now it’s Christmas. My favorite time of year used to be autumn, now it’s spring. Both of these changes are due to 14 years of living in Sweden. None of the people I care about most, besides my husband and children, live in the same country as me. I spend much more time playing Spider Solitaire or Sword of Fargoal than anyone suspects. I’d rather chew off my...

BLIZZARDEK

Staring into hyperspace snow for 40 minutes while simultaneously trying to keep the edge of the road in sight is VERY nerve-wracking. Why is it every time I have to drive somewhere in the evening it’s in white-out conditions? I keep hoping that the constant wind that is piling up drifts of snow will eventually blow it all out of the driveway and I won’t have to shovel. Or that I can at least put it off until Anders gets home on Friday…muahahahaha! Extremely aggravated that my husband’s car is nice and toasty and UN-ICED-UP in the garage while the...

WHERE WE BLOG FROM

There’s nothing really cozy about the place I blog from. If I were more pretentious, I’d call it the Den. Or the Study. Or the Office (which is actually kind of close to what it embodies, this room). I can’t really refer to it as the Library since there are books in every other room in the house, and this room doesn’t even win for most. It has a desk but no one studies at it. It has a rocking chair, but it’s not very comfortable. It’s the guest room when my mom is here and a sort of every-room...

THINGS I NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT

blurry eyes and re-occurring eye infections dry skin cleaning out the front hall closet and maybe some other closets while I’m at it getting going walking again summer vacation plans serious book purging—there is no room left on my shelves. Maybe I just need more shelves? putting photos in photo albums long-neglected tape to PC project spring cleaning. Like, seriously. When was the last time we moved furniture and cleaned behind it? It can’t be good that I can’t remember. magazine purging—WHY do we have dozens of archives boxes full of old magazines we never look at? Martha Stewart Living...

IT’S ALL RELATIVE

In January I passed my 13th anniversary of our move to Sweden, and later that month a cousin of mine finally made the move here. She’s also married to a Swede, but because of their careers they’ve been commuting back and forth from Sweden to the US for TEN YEARS. She said part of the reason for the decision to finally choose one place was motivated by how tired her husband was starting to look. I’m boggled that it took that long, but delighted that they chose Sweden. My mom’s family is huge—her dad had 7 sisters and a brother...

THREES

One of my favorite bloggers made a comment on a post by another of my favorite bloggers that struck me. She was talking about to-do lists and said that she has been trying to make a to-do list for each day that only has THREE things on it, because three things almost always get done. There’s no emergency about three things. I like that idea. Another blogger that I like was making lists of 3 delightful things a day for awhile. I like that idea, too. Threes seem to work so well for so many different reasons. My to-do lists...

TRIPLETS

3 moods I was in today: manic, happy, aggravated 3 feelings I experienced today: bloating, amusement, affection 3 things I’m looking forward to this weekend: sleeping in, seeing Katrina, bookstore visit 3 things I need to accomplish this weekend: laundry, shopping for Father’s Day, finishing the bookgroup book 3 things I keep wasting time on: Sword of Fargoal, Facebook, reading blogs 3 things that have made me happy lately: county-wide recycling pick-up program, a minus on the scale, that my friend’s husband may get to go home from the hospital this weekend for a few hours 3 people I’m thinking...
