HOME SWEET HOME

I was discharged from the hospital yesterday at lunch time. Since I’ve been responding very well to the cortisone treatment, they felt I could continue with tablets now from home. Anders picked me up at lunchtime and we went to Espresso House so I could get a toastie before we headed home. They sent me with a medicine list, info on the colonoscopy, a different easier laxative for the colonoscopy prep, and assurances about my sick leave and the followup in 2 weeks. All of the doctors and nurses I had dealings with were awesome, though my first doctor was...

RABBITS! RABBITS!

Well, I’m writing a blog post on the first of May, which is a holiday here in Sweden, and even though I didn’t say “Rabbits! Rabbits!” first thing when I woke up, I am writing it now, and that ought to count for something. It’s been an absolute stunner of a day, quite perfectly perfect: sunny, warm but not too warm, a cool breeze, blue skies, butterflies and bees and birds singing. The neighbor’s cat came around twice but is super shy, which is a bummer. I slept in and then played games and read before doing anything of import....

POST-OP

Anders took me to the Ortho Center in Malmö on Friday morning. I had to be there at 10:30 am and he couldn’t stay so he dropped me off and went home to work on the MG and wait for my call to come be picked up. I checked in, paid (SEK 150!), and was sent up to the prep waiting room but didn’t wait at all (then). The nurse checked my name, gave me a cup of pills and a glass of water (pain medication and anti-nausea meds) and then handed me a pile of clothing and took me...

READY TO LOSE IT

I could do with a little less stress. I feel like every little extra thing is about to shove me over the edge. I’ve been so filled with worry about health-related issues and worry about my mom and guilt over my sister dealing with all of it, and the usual crazy at work, that tonight when I misjudged and hit a curb (AGAIN WTF) with the Tesla, I almost lost it completely. I’ve never had a car I dislike so much. I love having an ELECTRIC car, but I hate the Tesla more and more. Not just because of Elon...

SUNDAY UPDATE

Apart from the restricted diet I’m on this past week and today, this has been an excellent weekend. We’ve had beautiful, warm autumn weather with lots and lots of sunshine, and a to-do list that has every item but one now checked off. Lots of laundry, cleaning, and yardwork. Anders has harvested the rest of the potatoes and a handful of late carrots and put the vegetable garden to bed for the winter. He took in the porch swing (I put the rest of the porch furniture away last week) and I washed the canopy cover. The house is clean...

READY TO GO

By the time you read this, I’ll be gone. HA! What a way to start a post. I’m leaving, on a jet plane. But I know when I’ll be back again, because that’s how round trip tickets work. I woke up at 3 am on Thursday night, sick as a dog, and throwing up. Fever, etc., all the not-fun stuff of a stomach bug. Sick all day Friday which meant not being able to go the office for our consultant’s last day in Lund, her farewell lunch, getting stuff done, printing necessary papers, and then also having cancel my hair...

BETTER AND BRIGHTER

When I say that tidying up my house and cleaning things makes me super happy, I sound like the most boring person in the world, but I don’t care. It does. I like nothing better* than looking around or walking through my home and admiring how nice it looks and all the things in it that make me happy. I LIKE having a neat and tidy place to live. I like a harmonious feeling to the colors and fabrics and patterns that surround me. And I like having things clean. It’s so OCD, but that’s just how it is. Having...

SNOW DAY

Today has been such a productive day, though a kind of letdown day, too, because I took mom and Danely to the airport this morning. We have been having another windstorm, and on top of super-cold temperatures and snowstorms, southern Sweden has been socked with winter. It was -4C this morning and not great for driving as it had been snowing all night, though it was mostly blowing around into drifts. We left at 7 am in order to have extra time, and good thing we did. I ended up taking Anders’ car because the Tesla wasn’t charged up enough....

POWERLESS BUT PUMPKINED

Yesterday was the blusteriest of blustery days. It was windy all day, with winds whipping the trees into a real frenzy. I worked from home both Thursday and Friday as I had been trying to beat a cold since earlier in the week and on Thursday morning it caught up with me. I stayed in bed for a few hours, and then felt better, so got up and worked. Since I was still pretty gunky yesterday, I stayed home again but felt okay enough to work a full day. By the time Anders came home, it was really stormy weather...

THE BUSY STARTS NOW*

Hello September! It’s the start of a new AIC season and the busiest time of both our AIC year and work, so things are a little crazy at the moment. We kicked off the new AIC season with a monthly meeting that wasn’t really a meeting at all: mini-golf at Ribersborg in Malmö. We had a lovely evening for it, sunny and warm, and a decent turn-out of 17 people, which included the manager of the golf venue and kiosk. I can’t remember the last time I actually played mini-golf. I suck at it, but it was fun, and surprisingly,...
