JINGLE ALL THE WAY

I am steaming through the Christmas to-do list! Tree is up and decorated, house is decorated, Christmas letter is written and ready to be printed, photos are cut and sorted, and the vast majority of my shopping is done. DONE! So late this year, but at least I’m nearly done. I still have a couple of things to get for Karin, stocking stuffers and a present for Anders’ mom, and that’s it! Next week I have to bake cookies for a work fika (I am avoiding baking cookies otherwise…if they’re not in the house, I can’t eat them, see?) and I have to write and mail cards, but that’s it. I’ll be working on the cards tonight, but probably won’t get them done.

It’s been a BAAAAAD week/weekend as far as food has been concerned. Book group (snacks & sweets), TWO julbords, and an impromptu dinner invitation to have friends over last night where we ordered take-out Chinese and I baked a giant snickerdoodle for dessert. URGH. But back on the WW wagon tomorrow…my goal is at least not to go UP during the holiday season. Not baking any more cookies should help but I anticipate resistance if my kids realize what’s happening. Sssshhhh, don’t tell them.

Two of my friends at work signed up for a 17-week choir “course” in Eslöv (the next town up) that starts at the end of January and runs until May. I just signed up too. Yay! I haven’t been in choir for several years now…the one I was in, which I liked very much, was in Malmö. It was too much of a commitment eventually when the kids started getting into activities and the cost of driving to Malmö plus the time it took to get there ended up being too much. I have missed it and this seems like a nice way to maybe ease back in. I don’t know if this will lead to a “real” choir (I don’t want a church choir), but it’s been billed as a “pop choir” so it seems like it will at least be modern music…hopefully not Justin Bieber or Ariana Grande or other teenyboppers whose music I am completely unfamiliar with.

I signed up for the choir after writing our Christmas letter in which I realized that I had done basically nothing of note all year. My life revolves around work, kids, cleaning, reading, waiting for Orphan Black season 3 and occasional social gatherings. I am not changing the world in any way, that’s for sure.

The weather sure isn’t very wintry here…we have had snow exactly once: the weekend we had our Thanksgiving dinner. It’s not even gone below zero more than one or two days. I am hoping for a white Christmas, but since we have to drive south the next day, it might be just as well if it waits.

Now I have to go see if I can get my family to watch all the episodes of Julkalendar I have missed since Tuesday. Writing Christmas cards can wait!
