THINGS TO DO

….and suddenly it’s Friday again and an entire week has gone up in ether. It’s been a particularly crazy one, it seems, though it wasn’t REALLY anything out of the ordinary. Karin was sick on Monday with a sore throat and head cold and Martin was sick on Wednesday with an upset stomach. Martin and I went to a gymnasium open house at Kathedralskolan in Lund and now he’s considering IB again for which I’m glad, and today we went to his half-year parent-teacher conference and he has some things that haven’t been turned in which is risking major bad grades, for which I am NOT glad. Sunday is therefore Homework Day.

Tomorrow is our Annual Thanksgiving Potluck and apart from my cousin Cate, everyone else is coming. 12 adults and 10 children, of whom most eat enough to count as an adult. I saw mentions in several places of people making/having/serving deviled eggs for their Thanksgiving meals yesterday and now I’m craving them but for me they are not at all a Thanksgiving menu item. They’re a fourth of July item! A picnic item! Still. Craving.

I’ve done some party prep work during the week and tonight, however, so I’m feeling pretty good about being ready for tomorrow. Anders is cooking all 3 of the turkeys tomorrow. I just have to dust and vacuum, clean the bathrooms, empty the wastebaskets, pay bills, do one load of laundry, and set up the tables. And possibly run to the store for whatever we’ve forgotten. Karin has a soccer tournament from 7:45 a.m. until around 2, and Martin and I re-scheduled the other gymnasium open house that is tomorrow for the next one on December 6. We also have to find out if the one we missed the evening of the day he was ill has another date, but I’m not so worried about that one, because it’s in Malmö and frankly trying to wrap my head around the logistics of getting my kid all the way to Malmö every day for school makes it ache, so whatever.

I didn’t even really think about the fact that it was Thanksgiving yesterday, didn’t even call my family since I knew my brother was traveling and my sister and my mom were entertaining a huge host of relatives (I talked to them today). But I was still thinking thankful thoughts on and off this week. I have a lot to be thankful for. And that’s just one of the things I’m thankful for.
