I’M MELTING! I’M MELTING!

It’s SO hot here. I swear, I’m swooning with heat. Not to mention sweltering, swelling, and just plain swearing. I hate being this hot, though I know that I shouldn’t complain that it’s nice weather and the sun is shining, and honestly I’m not complaining about that part, but the humidity: AUGH.

I remember when we moved back to the States after 6 years in Europe, in the summer of 1982. We came from Germany, where there was NO humidity to speak of, to Maryland, where the humidity was over 100%. I literally thought I was going to die every time we left the hotel. It was like trying to breathe water. I don’t know how people who live in the south or the east coast can bear it. It was bad enough in Chicago for those few weeks of the summer that were really bad, when I lived there, and it’s been one of the big bonuses of living in Sweden: nearly no humidity. Ever.

But not this week! The worst thing is that the house heats up so much during the day that it really doesn’t have a chance to cool down at night. I want to sleep on the trampoline, but the bugs prohibit that.

The summer weather is supposed to continue all this week, with high temps and high humidity…but on Saturday, I’ll be flying to Boston, where apparently: it’s even hotter. DOUBLE AUGH.

Even so, I can’t wait. I have a list of things to get done before then, and a lot to do at work as well. It’s my annual 2-week business trip and I have several trainings I’m holding, and lots of meetings, on top of all my regular work, so it’s not at all a vacation in any sense. But my mom will be joining me, and we’ll get to see friends and relatives and I already have a shopping list prepared (which surprisingly, isn’t that long).

I’ve just realized that because I’ve been so absent there for so long that there are probably a lot of people whose birthdays I have missed acknowledging, so if you are one of them, I hope you had a fantastic day!

Now to go figure out how to sleep without melting into a giant puddle of sweat. Wish me luck!
