IF YOU DON’T LIKE THE WEATHER IN SWEDEN, JUST WAIT FIVE MINUTES

You know that song I was singing a couple of posts ago? The one about summer? Yeah, well, we had it. It’s apparently over now. O Summer, you tease! It’s been pouring rain, grey, lowering cloud cover and FREEZING COLD for 2 days with no end in sight. We have transitioned from summer, summer, summer, summer to November in one fell swoop. Maybe not freezing, exactly, but DAMN, it’s cold. And you thought I was kidding when I put ‘sweden’ as one of the season choices on my last poll. Interesting* info from my poll: A WHOPPING 32 of you...

DIRECTOR’S CUT

I don’t think I’ve ever eaten so much in my life as I did this weekend. As we all did. Emily and Martin had prepared enough food for an army and there were only 6 of us, plus 3 kids and a baby who ate very small portions, mouse portions, BEETLE portions, in comparison to what we consumed. It was ALL so good, though. For dinner there were grilled asparagus wrapped in bacon, grilled ribs, grilled pork filets, grilled beef tenderloin, brown rice and zucchini risotto, 2 sauces to go with all the meat, and Martin never even got around...

TICKETY WHOO!

Summer turns me upside down. Summer, summer summer, it’s like a merry-go-round! Bright sun? check. Blue sky? check. Slight breeze? check. Buzzing bees? check. Lilacs in bloom? check, check check! We’re heading out in a little bit to spend the rest of the weekend at the summer cottage of our good friends Emily & Martin. Our other good friends Angie & Kristian and their 2 kids will also be there, so I’m really looking forward to it. The weather couldn’t be nicer! I have made rice krispie treats and filled a bowl with chopped up strawberries and seedless purple grapes....

RIGHT BRAINED SKILL SET

There are some things I’m really good at and some things I’m just so-so at, and some things I totally suck at. They even out, and that’s how it should be. It’s funny, though, when I think about it, how people in my life who know I’m good at one particular thing, have no idea about the other things at which I excel. And they may know, or suspect, some of the things I am not so good at, but it’s pretty rare, because I am nothing if not good at winging it. I wonder how much of our lives...

FLYGIRL

It’s a good thing other people are writing good stuff because I’m too tired to do any of my own today. Working very, very hard all day for several days and staying up WAY too late and then working very, very hard again is getting to be a bad habit. Going to bed at a reasonable hour seems to be beyond me. There is SO MUCH to do! There is NOT ENOUGH time. It’s quite suddenly turned summer here. And that means, yes, you guessed it, FLY SEASON. bleah Those horses behind us are really wonderful to look at most...

THAT’S WHAT I GET FOR SAYING SOMETHING

Why, WHY is this so difficult?? 2 popsicle sticks on the kitchen counter. A tupperware container in the fridge with one corner open (a frequent find). The TV left on in an empty room. 2 socks, a pair of pants, a t-shirt and underwear dropped on the floor IN FRONT OF the laundry basket. Etcetera och så vidare. AAARGH I can hear my mom chuckling all the way from here. My post about rapeseed really touched a chord, it seemed, and today my new friend kejn posted some photos of rape fields taken right around HERE! This is what I...

OF THINGS WITH WINGS AND BOOKS WITH HOOKS

I was a luna moth once for Halloween. It was the best costume EVER. You couldn’t beat it if you tried. My mom made our costumes when we were small…once, little red riding hood; another time: full-size black bat wings, and then…the luna moth. The weird thing is that I don’t remember wearing it, and I don’t remember the reactions of anyone that saw it. I don’t think a photo of it even exists. It just glows like this shining light of COOLNESS about my childhood. It was complete with pale green net wings on a frame, with the “eyes”...

READY TO RUMBLE

Knocked some more major things off my to-do list, or rather, put the wheels in motion for them, as they involve appointments and scheduling and calls back, so even if I can’t quite cross them off my mental list yet, they are at least moved over into the working-on-it list. I am craving SALT. 2 slices of warm, golden brown wheat toast with a bit of olive oil drizzled over and perky little pyramids of sea salt strewn with abandon on top. That, and some frozen grapes. And a california roll with salmon nigiri. Damn you, gissa and thesidhe and...
