I’M ON AUSTRALIA TIME

Our sleep/wake schedules get completely screwed when we’re on vacation. We stay up way too late, and as a consequence, sleep even later in the morning. I, who could happily sleep in until 10 every morning, passed that mark today because I was up past 1:30 and Anders woke me up when he came in at 3:30 a.m.

Karin gave her pacifiers to Santa and has been struggling all week since to fall asleep at bedtime. Normally, she’s asleep as soon as her head hits the pillow. Now, she’s awake for several hours, with huge dark circles under her eyes, flinging her covers and animals to the floor, howling at the top of her lungs, whining, reading books, etc. Last night, Anders laid down with her for a bit, and finally ended up giving her his camping sleeping bag to sleep in, which eventually did the trick, long after 11 p.m.

The sun was shining this morning when I woke up, I’ve already ironed the tablecloths, made the bed, and emptied the dishwasher. We have lobster and crab salad (in the shell) in the fridge and Anders is working on the rest of the menu. We have 4 people + 1 kid coming over for New Year’s dinner and fireworks later. I hope it stays clear so we can see the fireworks over Flyinge!

My aunt and uncle who live around the corner from my mom have put their beautiful house up for sale, which makes me sad. I think it’s only a matter of time before my mom puts HER beautiful house up for sale, too. 🙁 She and my dad designed and built it a few years before he died, and it’s really way too big for one person. But it is the coolest house, with extra wide hallways and doorways* and cathedral ceilings and windows everywhere, and a spa swimming pool and built-in bookcases around the gorgeously tiled fireplace, and a giant double-decker deck outside, and MY stained glass window built-in the great room wall (Mom knows she has to get that removed before she sells or else). I hope she doesn’t do it before we are home next summer. I want to say goodbye to the house first.
