LALALA

Just got home from choir. I’m so excited about starting to sing again. Singing used to be more important than breathing to me, 20 years ago, in my “former” life. I’m glad that I’m finding my way back to so many of the things I used to do and love πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I’ve been thinking a lot about the comments I’ve been hearing lately and the complaints about the weather turning colder, and I have to say that I’m thrilled that it’s autumn, even if it IS a little early. I suspect we’ll have some warm weather again before it really sets in. I love fall. It’s my favorite season. I love spring, too, but fall is the best. It’s sweater season (and if I was in the States) football season, and the air is crisp and smells clean and rain-washed. I don’t mind the colder weather here in Sweden, although I have to admit, I have trouble with the lack of sunshine during the winter months.

Did you know that in the south of Sweden, the difference in sunlight hours from summer to winter is SEVENTEEN?! I can’t even imagine what it must be like for you sun-deprived folk up north. Down here in SkΓ₯ne, we’re on the same latitude as Anchorage! Chicago, where I lived for 10 years, and which is FREEZING cold in the winter, is on the same latitude as Rome. Weird, huh?

A long time ago, a friend of a friend was complaining about the onset of cool weather and winter and I tried to explain to her why I loved it so much this time of year. I wrote this poem, one of the few I’ve written in rhyme, as a silly way to illustrate my feelings. πŸ™‚

CYCLE

There is good in every thing,
When the wind begins to sing,
The pumpkin grows
and your breath shows.
The scent of cider in your nose.

There is good in every time.
The trees begin their orange-red rhyme.
The geese fly vvvvv’s
before the freeze.
Mittens on hands around your knees.

Summer puts itself to bed,
Sweet dreams of sunshine in your head
to keep you warm
wait out the storm
as seasons spiral round in form.

Always thought I ought to submit it to some children’s anthology of verse some day πŸ™‚
