NOTHIG BUCH TO SAY

I was thinking of trying to compile a “Best of Lizardek” list but I’m unsure where to start. Do you have a favorite post of mine that you could recommend to the list? Just to get me started? Since I’ve been writing in this journal for about 2 years, I ought to have SOME stuff worthy of mention. October has grabbed Autumn by the throat and shaken her back and forth, leaving her limp and leafless. For weeks we enjoyed apple-crisp days of unmarred blue skies, sunshine and stillness. The leaves turned slowly, illuminating every grove, and as slowly fell,...

LATER

I don’t hear my husband get up but I hear when the kids do. The television displaces sound as it slams on with a whoosh. I bury my head in the pillows, burrow down the cocoon-tunnel of the winter duvet I put on the bed yesterday. Its warmth and thickness is not enough to keep out the jangling disharmony from the television set. “Turn it down,” I croak. Anders hears me and admonishes the children: shut mama’s door before you turn on the tv! Moments later, the door snicks to, a creaking slam, then not exactly silence, but quiet enough....

GANG AFT AGLEY

We were going to go go-carting for our team-building activity this afternoon on the 2nd day of our off-site meeting, but the sun was shining, and Malmö Festival was in full swing, and we were running late, and no one really felt like go-carting, so we ended up deciding to ditch it and go shopping in the late afternoon instead,…except that I went back to the office and worked for 2 hours instead. We were going to take the kids and go down to Malmö Festival tonight to eat festival food and cotton candy and walk around and see the...

HI HO HI HO

I worked until 9:20 p.m. tonight. But you don’t have to feel sorry for me because I left at 12:15 earlier in the day and went home to have lunch and pick up the kids (releasing Anders to go to work) and then went to Angie’s to hang out for a couple of hours, and then after dinner I went back to work at 6 p.m., because jeez louise do I have a lot to do, and I can’t get it done when there are 42 million people coming in asking me if they could please, please? just add one,...

JUST ANOTHER MANIC SUNDAY

Damned Aggravating: Having the power go out at midnight, and holybatcave batman, it’s DARK in here. Fumbling my way through the house to the far end of the laundry room only to find that ALL FOUR of the flashlights are dead as doornails. Even with new batteries (fumbled back to the kitchen, fumbled from the fridge, fumbled into the stupid dead flashlights)…DEAD DEAD DEAD DEAD. #¤”%¤#! Double-Damned Aggravating: Leaving the stupid dead flashlights on the kitchen table and fumbling my way to the cabinet where the matches are kept only to realize with my fumbling fingers that there ARE NO...

FOLLOW UP

I had both good news and not yet news today regarding the people I talked about a couple of weeks ago. Kristian, the husband of Angie, our good friends, had surgery on his jaw today, is staying overnight in the hospital, and is scheduled for more surgery on his arm next week, as they are still unsure about the status of the cancer and are doing several procedures and biopsies to make sure if they got it all or not. They are concerned it has gotten into his lymph nodes, but the test results will take another 2 weeks to...
