ROAD TO HELL

I haven’t written about the hay bales and how they glow like giant golden random bocce balls in the fields. Or how the fields themselves have gone from rippling oceans of thigh-high grasses to overturned, churned chocolate earth. I haven’t written about how time has speeded up again and thrown me full-speed into autumn even though the trees have yet to turn. I haven’t written about the rosy color across Karin’s cheeks from days spent on the soccer field and the funny conversations Martin and I keep having. I haven’t written about how upset I was over the hackity haircut...

BACK TO THE GRIND-ISH

I’m the only one that has to smack the alarm clock beeping in the early a.m. and get out of bed and get moving…Anders is still of vacation the rest of this week and the kids don’t go back to school until August 20th (crazy!). I went back to work last week but there are so many colleagues still on vacation that it doesn’t really feel like normal yet. People are slowly starting to come back; there were more in the office today than last week, but even so, most of Sweden’s companies are still on half-strength and ours is...

NO PARTICULAR PLACE TO GO, NO PARTICULAR THING TO DO

Why, when we aren’t really doing ANYTHING, is it so hard to find time to sit down and post? It’s 11:30 p.m. and I should be in bed falling asleep because we are getting up early tomorrow to go Öresunds Runt (around the Öresund) ending with dinner in Copenhagen, but instead I’m catching up on reading blogs and hoping I don’t dream about Lego again tonight. Even my mom has been sucked in to the Giant Never-Ending Lego Project. We have many many kits completed but unfortunately, the majority of them are missing a piece or two. HOWEVER! Lego.com sells...

HOW TIME FLIES

It’s the middle of June and I’ve posted only 3 times so far this month. This makes 4. How sad is that? When the end of the year comes around and I start working on my blog book for 2012, I’ll only have myself to blame for how THIN it is. Tomorrow is the last day of school for both my kids. Neither one of us is invited to whatever end-of-school ceremonies they are having. Those days are over. We are officially parental persona non grata. Personas non grata? Persona non gratas? Whatever, we’re not wanted. Since we both have...

OF THIS & THAT

There is a nest of baby birds up under the roof just outside of Martin’s window. They go crazy, peeping their little heads off as soon as it starts to get light in the morning and it gets light EARLY. Like 4 a.m. early. And they scream for food until approximately 7 a.m. at which time their poor parents who have been darting back and forth for hours must collapse, muddy and exhausted. We are not 100% sure what kind of birds they are, but we guess they must be onE of the LBJs (sparrow, most likely) because that’s the...

THIS IS JUST TO SAY

Sweden had the last word on April Fool’s jokes with a full-fledged blizzard a day late. Thankfully, it didn’t stick, but it is COLD out there. FREEZY BREEZY cold. I will come back and write some more soon, most likely about pie night, because I just realized I never wrote about pie night! but I have to go pick up Karin from soccer practice and then, possibly, go to bed early. Why am I so tired? I am REALLY tired. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I JUST CAN’T CONTAIN THIS FEELING THAT REMAINS

Aaaaand, there goes another weekend! The sun has set though we didn’t see much of it the past 2 days. It’s been grey and foggy and now it’s raining. I have been cleaning all damn weekend, so it doesn’t feel like I had any real time off from WORK. Just a different kind of work. Though I did take a 2-hour nap today after Martin and I got home from cleaning at his school for 2.5 hours. It’s a parent-cooperative and we are supposed to go twice a year on their Fixer-days and clean. I would rather pay something to...

BITS OF TID

FBAR: forms for the past 6 years have been completed, printed, ready to copy & mail in…what a load off my mind! Double Dog Dare: Swedish Citizenship application has been mailed in! I’ve heard everything for turnaround time from 2 weeks to 8 months…here’s hoping for shorter, since I need my passport back by May. Family: off on their ski vacation; so I have the house to myself until Thursday night! Game: The whole family is addicted to Draw Something. Do you have it on your iPhone or iPad? It’s like Pictionary in your pocket! Barky: losing it. The amount...

SNIPPETS, GAMES, PAPERWORK & DOGS

Loads of laundry so far today: 5 and counting Piles of paperwork I have waded through so far today: 42 and counting. Seriously! The paperwork! Holy deforestation, batman: SO MUCH PAPER. When I think of all the paper I have received, used, wasted, saved in my life, not even including how much paper is in ALL THE BOOKS I’ve read, borrowed, bought, loaned, given away) my head hurts. The amount of BANK STATEMENTS alone is discombobulating. We keep binders full of “important papers” that go back, in many cases, around 10 years, often more. They include bank accounts, fund statements,...

JUST TO SAY

berchshill commented today that I wasn’t online much this week and she was right. Between Anders’ second week away, dog-sitting, work, researching US expat tax information, getting the kids fed and to bed on time, and driving Karin to practice and tournaments all week, I just haven’t had the ork. Tonight the dog went home (though he obviously didn’t want to, which was rather gratifying!), Anders CAME home, our 2 favorites went to 2nd-chance in Melodifestivalen and I am ready for bed. May your Sunday be sunny & bright! Best of ALL Birthday Wishes to Elizabeth!
