THE TIME, SHE FLIES, SHE FLIES SO FAST

The last 3 days have been full of good things, almost too much to write about. They’ve also been full of bad things, almost too much to write about. Thursday I worked really hard on AWC stuff all evening and got a ton done, although I still have a ton left it feels like a lighter ton, somehow. I also talked to my oldest and bestest friend, who is dealing with some of the most awful things a mother can deal with and still stay standing. In addition, I talked to my friends Angie and Kristian, who keep getting punched...

FEELING THE LOVE

Being in Oslo for 3 days was a lot of fun, but man alive, am I totally stressed out now at the amount of stuff I need to deal with to catch up. 🙁 I’m just going to rant really quick and then I’ll calm down and tell you about my weekend. Okay? I hope that’s okay. Oh well, too bad if it’s not! My kids are performing in a circus show, taught by REAL clowns from a circus on the same night as our biggest AWC meeting of the year, which includes a Year-in-Review presentation (PowerPoint) that I am...

HUNTING AND SHOOTING, NOT NECESSARILY IN THAT ORDER

Blue sky days…I can never have too many. Each one a gift wrapped up with a sunshine bow. Yesterday, I was privileged to meet another online friend, the inimitable Tracey Marshall. She’s a talented photographer, and an American expat living north of Gothenburg in Sweden. She and her boyfriend Tobey drove down to visit and brought the camera. Tracey is one of a handful of photographers that I admire greatly, one who also writes passionately and amusingly about her experiences adjusting to life in Sweden. In addition to her engaging online persona, in person she is friendly, talkative and charming....

GOOD THINGS

Is there anything better than friends and books and food? Don’t answer that, it was rhetorical. e11en, your surprise package was waiting for me when I got home, and I was literally floored by your kindness. Thank you so very, very much. There’s nothing better than friends, and the ones inside my computer are wonderful. (Click Here for More Night Trampoline!)

REVIVAL

A morning of sleeping in was just what I needed to revive me. Awakening on my own, with no alarm incentive, rolling over and lying in the bed alone, listening to the breakfast clinks and clatters as Anders and the kids spoon up cereal. I stretch my toes, rotate my feet, feel my ankle pop a bit. The window is open and morning sunshine is slanting across the backyard, illuminating the pines and the far side of the ditch. It’s heating up and the dew has already faded. A last-of-the-season fly is desultorily buzzing about, slow and heavy. He’s not...

THINGS THAT GO A LONG WAY

Finally having a chance to get caught up on LJ/blogs/emails Getting the AWC website/newsletter finished, put together and sent for proofreading Sleeping in until 9:30 a.m. Going grocery shopping and finding a unexpected huge shelf of American products at a store I rarely patronize Finding a 4-meter trampoline on the internet for 1/2 the price and listening to the shrieks of joy coming from the backyard A blue and white cloud-streaked sky, sunshine, a breeze. Late summer greens, a veritable palette of different shades: sage, olive, beige, avocado, silvery-grey-green, purple-tipped. A vase full of white lilies, pink roses, white strawflowers,...

THANKING, THINKING, AND SOME LINKING

Wheeee!! Happy-package-dance times 2 today! And it’s not even my birthday yet! 5 books from my mom (thanks, Mom!!) and the coolest, niftiest, wowsiest gift from my brother and Simone: 2 strings of handmade paper flower lights. Did I mention that Simone is the absolute queen of cool crafty things? I can’t wait to put these up and kitsch up the room to an unbearably cool degree. She had hers up around the balcony while we were visiting and I admired them and told her I would love something like that, and she went and made me not 1 but...

A GOOD ONE

We are officially pet owners again! No photos since I’m sensible of a certain someone’s fish phobia, although I can’t promise her they won’t pop up in a future post. Forewarned is forearmed! We got neon tetras, and some other kind of tetras (rosy with black & white accents) and some silver danios and some orange and black barbs and an algae-eater who promptly died overnight (no algae! oops) and today we added a beautiful blue and red betta. I have no idea if I have the names or species right on any of these except the neons and the...

THAT’S WHAT I GET FOR SAYING SOMETHING

Why, WHY is this so difficult?? 2 popsicle sticks on the kitchen counter. A tupperware container in the fridge with one corner open (a frequent find). The TV left on in an empty room. 2 socks, a pair of pants, a t-shirt and underwear dropped on the floor IN FRONT OF the laundry basket. Etcetera och så vidare. AAARGH I can hear my mom chuckling all the way from here. My post about rapeseed really touched a chord, it seemed, and today my new friend kejn posted some photos of rape fields taken right around HERE! This is what I...

MISS-MARY-POPPINS-SPOONFUL-OF-SUGAR-SACCHARINE-SWEET-LIZARDEK-LIVING-MY-PERFECT-LIFE*

I love this country. I just found out that my company is bringing in an on-site massage therapist every other week for 3 occurences before summer vacation. If it goes well, they’ll continue in the fall. AND the company provides 1500 kronor in friskvårdsbidrag, healthcare subsidy, per year per employee, which can be used to pay for them. (It can also be used to pay for most any other sport or exercise costs) How cool is that?? Mmmmmmmmmmmm…massage! I really do love this country. 🙂 My Favorite Tongue Twister of All Time: A tree toad loved a she-toad Who lived...
