ON MY MENTAL POST-IT NOTES

2 weeks is too long for my husband to be gone. 3 weeks is not long enough for my mom to visit. The End of Mr. Y by Scarlett Thomas blew the top of my head off yesterday. Note to self: wear hats. Went to see Mamma Mia! tonight. Pierce Brosnan doesn’t look comfortable singing, and Meryl Streep kind of weirded me out. Best part: the boys in the swim flippers dancing on the pier. I think I’ll double that 20-clove garlic chicken recipe for the dinner party on Friday night. Marie!! Thank you for the pumpkin carving set and...

A LITTLE BIT OF THIS GOES A LONG WAY

Maybe I should try iron supplements. I am soooooooo tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiired. Or maybe it’s just hibernation time. Whatever. *plops down* I read the BEST book yesterday. Haven Kimmel’s The Used World. I can’t stop thinking about it and now I want to go back and re-read all the rest of her excellent books. So far, I have not been disappointed in any of the 6 used CDs I ordered a couple of weeks ago on Amazon, except for a few songs on one of them. Considering that, with one exception (not the same one), I bought them all on the basis...

I AM NOT A BLOGGER, I JUST PLAY ONE ON MEME

Things I am tired of: darkness rain cold hands my daughter’s whining Things that never seem to end: laundry my to-do list at work winter the weight struggle Things I want to eat but don’t have in the house: tempura maki reese’s fast break bars my dad’s chervil soup (I could make it, though) pie Things that made me laugh today: an email from a colleague after I solved a problem for him, that said in huge letters: I LOVE YOU!!!!! my son’s verbose and swenglish explanation of a game in gym class called spookball the outfit my daughter had...

BE LIONS ROARING THROUGH THE FORESTS OF KNOWLEDGE

I was a bit flabbergasted and then completely bowled over today to get a message from my friend Marilyn telling me she’d given me a ROAR award. This is a new award to me, I hadn’t heard of it before. Being the recipient of A ROAR FOR POWERFUL WORDS award comes with some stipulations. I am supposed to share 3 writing tips and then pass on the award to three more bloggers worthy of recognition and esteem. Frankly, this sounds like a meme to me. Curious to find out where this award originated, I started following links back. Quite quickly...

WHAT EVERY WELL-ROUNDED LIBRARY NEEDS

I realize this is really bad timing, judging from the tumbleweeds currently blowing through my own wallet, but I can finally make mention here, since I’ve just verified that all my family members have received and unwrapped their Christmas presents. Remember all that editing I was so mysteriously working on over the course of the past year? It was this: lizardek’s obiter dictum — best of 2003-2006 And if there is anyone who just can’t get enough (and my jaw will permanently dislocate if so), there is also The Complete Works (to date). I know these are not really of...

PICK ONE, THEN COMMENT! COMMENT SOME MORE! I LOVE IT!

I wonder what else I could write about besides BREAKFAST that would get so many comments. Candy favorites? Sex positions? Ways to add extra time to your day? The best book you EVER read, EVER? Nah. Bacon and cinnamon sugar toast and English muffins and filmjölk would probably top them all. Total monster drama day today. I’m wiped. I fucking HATE drama. Hate it. With a capital F. Tomorrow Anders comes home and I’m taking the kids to sushi. Also buying stuffing at the American store. Take that, drama! I get knocked down, but I get up again, you ain’t...

THIS JUST IN

Who’s on Facebook? And why? What are you doing there? Do we all really have this much time to fart around on the internet? Good lord, what did we DO with ourselves back in the dark ages? Remember board games? I miss those. *** Do you have “pet names” for things in your house or food or stuff that you refer to when your kids or your significant other are around by words or names other than their real ones? The kids call my imported sugar-free cherry Kool-Aid Mama’s Saft (Mama’s juice). And we call summer sausage “pricky korv” because...
