ALIVE BUT BORING

Suddenly it’s been nearly 2 weeks since I posted. How does that happen?? Anders got home from China on Friday, he leaves again super early tomorrow morning for Italy, but will be home next weekend as well. I just looked out the window and over across the way are three tall pine trees, each one with a dove perched at the highest branch, all facing into the wind. 😀 It’s quite cloudy and the wind is racing the clouds along. I was hoping for a nicer, sunshiny day today but looks as if I’m being foiled again. *sigh* …where is...

IF I HAD A MILLION DOLLARS

We had a lazy long weekend and now I’m having a busy week. It’s making my second short week feel longer, because there’s so much in it. Wah wah wah, here comes the Wahmbulance, as my brother would say. I might have mentioned in a recent post how anxious I was feeling about money…all these big expenditures we have right now is making me panic a bit. We had several huge car repair bills, still have a few to pay and car service coming up, Martin’s graduation party, our tickets to the US, driving school, plus some busted appliances …EEK....

EARS, FISH, PIE, MONEY

Karin got her ears pierced today…there goes my dream of third generation virgin lobes! 😀 …haha! I actually don’t know if my grandmother has pierced ears…if she does, then I am the third generation and Karin’s destroyed the dream for fourth. She’s been wanting to get her ears pierced for several years and I had told her she had to wait until she was 15. It’s not that I really care about whether or not she has pierced ears but I think body alterations should be made as your own decision when you are adult enough to know what you...

HEALTHY AS A …YOU KNOW

I don’t know if every company in Sweden offers their employees health check-ups, but ours does. They’re every other year, fully covered by insurance. You can opt to take a stress test, in addition to the regular tests, and you get to see a doctor to consult about your results afterward. My follow-up was today, and according to my results, I’m a very healthy horse. They checked hearing and sight, lung function, did an EKG, checked pulse, cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar, kidney function, liver, metabolism and hemoglobin. Of course, they measure your weight and height, too. The last time...

IT ALWAYS GOES BACK TO FOOD

In the middle of busy week, though yesterday my massage was cancelled and today 2 meetings at work were, so at least a few fewer things on the list. We had a goodbye fika today for one of our team members (in the events group) that is leaving us this week and moving to Paris, to work for our company as an events manager for the southern Europe region. He’s a truly nice, positive guy so it’s a bummer to have that dynamic leaving our department. The manager that hired him, however, just quit her job and is coming onboard...

WHAT TO DO WITH A WEEK

What should one do with an extra week off at the tail-end of the holidays? Write a mile-long to-do list, of course. If you’re me, which I’m guessing you are glad you are not, after hearing that. To be clear, my to-do list has things like “Watch Downton Abbey’s Christmas episode” on it, as well as “iron clothes” so it’s both things I want to do and things I need to do. I’ve already crossed off 7 things and started two others. We denuded the trees of decorations yesterday and Anders chopped all the limbs off. Both trees were dry...

SLIPPIN’, SLIPPIN’, SLIPPIN’ INTO THE FUTURE*

Oy, where did that week go? Where did all the weeks go? I know, I know, I talk about how times flies all the time; you’d think I’d be used it by now, but no, it’s equally surprising ALL THE TIME. All the time that disappears. It’s been raining and/or drizzling for days on end and my hair is reacting as you’d expect: like a crazy person. It’s not just frizzy. It’s SUPER FRIZZY. If I let it air-dry even a little bit after a shower, it looks like chestnut dandelion fuzz. Good thing it’s not bird-nest-building season because I’d...

IN WHICH I START AND MANAGE TO KEEP GOING

I’m sitting here, staring at the keyboard, wondering what to write about. Should I talk about all the walks I’ve been taking? Martin has gone with me for every one of them, at home, and at work I have a colleague that goes with me. The work ones are usually only 15-20 minutes and then when I get home, I try to go right out immediately and do another 15-45 minutes. I walk as fast as I can but I get shin splints so easily that sometimes I can’t go as fast as I’d like. It’s getting chillier these days,...

REPLACED

I missed the blood moon. I’ll stay up late for falling stars but get up super extra early for a big red moon? Nope. (Actually, I forgot) Speaking of big red things, I’m reading The Martian. Have you read it? Are you going to see the movie? I’m excited for it, because I like science fiction and I like Matt Damon and the book so far is good, albeit pretty techy and mathy and sciency. I was telling the kids about it at dinner tonight, and Martin said, “A movie about a guy figuring out how to grow enough potatoes...
