JUST WHAT I NEEDED

I think this coming week is the last of the dead weeks, and then people will start coming back to work. If things start ramping up, that’s quite alright with me, even though I am still not done with the “projects to do if no work is coming in”. Last week, because I was sick, I ended up working all week from home. I plan to work at least tomorrow and Tuesday in the office, then hope to work the rest at home again, because after that everyone will be back and I’ll have to be onsite more than not....

SATURDAY STUFF

One of the few things the WordPress export DIDN’T do was pick up the userpics that I used with each post I wrote on Livejournal. They were (and are) a sort of visual indication of mood, and I had over 100 to choose from, and even though I ALSO made note of my mood, I liked seeing them, there beside the words I wrote. When I was looking for a WordPress theme to use with this new blog, I deliberately chose one that allowed me have a small image next to each post, figuring I could put my userpics there....

A WEEKEND FULL OF GOOD THINGS

It’s a super busy weekend! On Friday, I got together with my best friends, Debbie and Camilla. We hadn’t seen each other in just over a month, because Debbie was in Canada with her family for 4 weeks, and every time Camilla and I tried to get together, one of us was busy. So, we had a lot to catch up on. We met at Camilla’s apartment and ate the takeaway dinner I had picked up on the way. At one point, I remember thinking, “good grief, we are so loud” but it was because we had so much to...

AROUND THE VILLAGE WE CALL HOME

Good thing I went for a walk yesterday while the sun was shining because today is freezing: grey, rainy and occasionally snowing. It’s supposed to be like this all day. Yesterday afternoon I asked Anders if he wanted to go for a walk and he said yes and we left about 3 pm with me saying that I wanted to walk at least 20 minutes. There are no good places to walk, really, in our village. It’s all paved for the most part, with only one gravel dirt path (the snail trail) unless you head to the outskirts. Karin and...

HERE I AM

Got my stimulus check today, the second one, plus the printed copies of my 2020 blog books. A good mail day, for sure. The volume of my 2020 blog book is VERY slim. one of the slimmest, but the last four years have all been slim, so. It makes me wonder what the heck I wrote so much about in earlier years. I suspect some years just made fatter books because there were lots of photos included in them. Now that the kids are gone, I’m not taking very many photos, and when I do, I tend to put them...

HOMEFULNESS

One full week of work down and we’re on to week 3 of the new year. Which feels the same as the old year, still. My mom is out of her house, and now officially “homeless”. She and my sister stayed last night at the condo she’s been offered temporarily by a friend, but are leaving tomorrow for my sister’s home in North Carolina for about 3 weeks. I’ve had text conversations with my sister, but haven’t really talked to either of them, other than to update them on what’s going on with Anders’ mom, since they had so much...

SPEAKING OF WHICH

Years ago, a friend who was a teacher asked me to speak to her English students about my thoughts and opinions of living in Sweden. I don’t remember much about it, except that I stood in front of a class of high school kids and told them what my experiences were and answered their questions. My kids were small then, and I had only been in Sweden for a handful of years or so. Now, I’ve lived here for nearly 23 years. My kids are, to all intents and purposes, grown and heading out on their own adult journeys. They...

PRACTICALLY PERFECT IN EVERY WAY

On Saturday, I’m flying to a place I’ve always wanted to visit but actually kinda never thought I’d make it to. I’m past 50 so you know the list of places I’d like to see is getting more and more improbable. I’m not sure why I’ve always thought it would be cool to visit Seattle. It’s a big city and it has what seems to be a cool vibe, and it’s on the west coast in the Pacific Northwest, which I’m partial too after visiting my best friend in Oregon a couple of times, but other than that, I just...

WAKE UP WITH DETERMINATION, GO TO BED WITH SATISFACTION

No slug day for me today, though I did manage to sleep in a bit. I wake up early nearly every day with a headache starting or raging, and have to decide whether I can fall back asleep or must take some medicine after getting to the bathroom. It feels like it’s almost always either dehydration or tension causing the problem and despite drinking plenty of water, it happens again the next night. UGH. I read for awhile, checked emails, and then got up around 10 to shower and dress. I had a full mental list of things to do...

HOW TO HAVE A GOOD DAY

Get a good night’s sleep. Sleep in a little bit, but not too much. Move your bowels.* Take a hot shower, then add a blast of cold water. Get as clean as you can. Brush your teeth. Clip your nails. Eat a nourishing breakfast that includes avocado, egg and fruit. Plus V8 if you can get it. Send your best friends a message thanking them for a lovely evening the night before. Start a new book (or continue a good one. Or finish one that makes you regret it’s over). Get some things done. Cross things off your to-do list....
