INTO THE CLOSET

It appears that my brain has been so thoroughly chewed by rabbits that it no longer has the ability to retain anything of importance. Today at work, I turned up my nose at the food being served in the cafeteria, preferring instead to take the half-portion of pasta from the other day from the fridge and heat it up. I opened it up and thought, “Oh! How strange! This is chicken & sun-dried tomato tagliatelle and I thought it was bacon & chanterelle mushroom with curly noodles…oh well, whatever” and I put it in a bowl and popped it into...

SHORT AND SWEET

Why is it always the parents of the problem children who spend the most time at parent-teacher meetings being belligerent about the school rules and the classroom routines? Honestly, sometimes you just want to bonk people’s heads together. ***

COME ON AND ZOOM, ZOOM

Even when I have an evening when I “don’t have anything to do,” I can suddenly realize that it’s 9:41 p.m. and where in the hell did my evening GO?! Out the bloody window, apparently. At Weightwatchers after work I managed a pleased, if slightly pained smile, at the revelation that I lost 4 hectograms this past week. All summer long I have been struggling with the same damn kilo. It will NOT GET OFF OF ME. It’s like everyone’s nightmare small-child tantrum, clinging with a pincer grip around your legs (or in this case, your hips) and shrieking NO...

FULL OF BEANS

I signed up for twitter. I must be mad. Now what do I do with it? Do people answer me on it? Do they just read it and nod their heads or squinch up their noses? Here’s a question for you: How many online communities/presences do you have? Can you keep up with them all? How, MY GOD, how do you do it?? Karin is now the proud owner (and wearer) of an over-sized karate outfit in which she reminds me of a rather sharp-cornered, belted schmoo. I have work to be doing. Why aren’t I doing it? My walk...

ASK AND YE SHALL RECEIVE

Last weekend I thought I would have time to take some picture requests, but only kejn and my mom asked for anything, and kejn‘s was IMPOSSIBLE OH MY GOD, DO NOTHING? FOR NO ONE? SIT STILL??? *blank look* HUH?? Time conspired against me that day somehow and I never ended up getting around to taking any photos, and then First Crazy Week of Fall One began and all thoughts of photo shoots flew from my mind. However, I had told Martin and Karin about the photo request that their grandma had made and then we came up with a great...

UP TO MY ASS IN ALLIGATORS

It’s not that I’m not in the mood to write or that I don’t have things to write about…I’m just SWAMPED. I’ve got projects coming out my ears. Even though we had no plans this weekend and I DID sleep in like a total zombie this morning after a completely crazy week, I still seem to have every moment full with things to do and it’s leaving little time for introspection. What’s… a household chore you don’t mind doing? worse than looking foolish, for you? the kind of insect you catch under a cup and carefully put outside instead of...

FEELING FALL

It’s been on the chilly side the last few days, especially in the mornings and evenings, though today was a great warm glory of sunshine. I didn’t get home until well near 6 (the all-day/evening work event turned out to be only all-day, but in a minor twist of irony the rest of my family is out this evening, the only one I am home this week), and after eating dinner and catching up with blogs, I set out just after 7 to walk. The sky was an unearthly blue hung about with underlit clouds and the sliding sun lighting...

STUFF TO BUY AND STUFF TO DO

I awoke to the sound of pouring rain this morning and felt awfully sorry for the Flyinge Sports Association who were probably cursing the weather as they tried to set up the flea market tents and tables over by the soccer fields on the other side of the village. By noon, however, the clouds had lifted and there was blue sky showing around all the edges of the towering cumulus skybeasts, when the kids and I set out. For safety’s sake, we wore our raincoats tied around our waists, and we were glad we did as a last sudden shower...

DO BE DO BE DO AND DO AND DO

As my friend Kathey says, I am a force to behold! (She is, too) We exchanged lists of what we did today and patted ourselves on the back. Here is my list: put stuff out on the curb for the flea market pickup done 5 – count ’em – FIVE loads of laundry (aside to my brother: WITH DRYER *muahahaha!*) stripped all the beds and made them up new talked to my husband on the phone (he’s on Gotland) talked to my brother who flew home yesterday…it’s sure quiet around here now talked to my mom for an hour read...

HOW CAN THE LIGHT THAT BURNED SO BRIGHTLY SUDDENLY BURN SO PALE?

It’s not iritis and it’s not glaucoma and it’s not any other eye disease. I have healthy eyes, just ageing ones…and DRY ones, to boot. Very probably made worse by the skin treatment medicine I was on for 4 months in the beginning of the year and which I will most likely be starting again tomorrow, which definitely won’t help and will, in fact, probably make it worse, at least for a while. So, I’m relieved to know that my eyes are really okay, but frustrated to know that the blurryness will probably continue for a long time and that...
