THE SITCH

It’s the last day of a 4-day weekend and Mors Dag here in Sweden. We had Thursday and Friday off for Ascension day and a bridge day, and it’s been a relatively quiet, very relaxing weekend for the most part…except for some major bummer stuff that happened on Friday.

On Thursday, Karin came over with Brumma and we hung out on the deck in the sunshine and watched the birds. The weather all weekend has been very changeable with a little bit of everything, including a triple rainbow over Flyinge. We get double rainbows quite often but I think this was the first time I’ve seen a triple! Unfortunately, since it keeps raining, even though my to-do list for the weekend included weeding and planting a couple of new plants in the front garden, I haven’t been able to do either.

Friday’s plan was to go to the movie in the evening with Martin and Karin. Anders had a scheduled COVID test at 3 pm for his US work trip on Saturday, but came home with the shocking news that it was positive. Which meant that the cold he, Karin, and I all had after we got back from Italy was COVID. For sure for him (second time) and most likely for Karin and I, who had basically the same symptoms. We weren’t super sick, any of us, and we all thought it was just a cold. But it meant that he had to cancel his trip last minute for the second time, so he was really upset.

The kids and I went to see Everything Everywhere All at Once which was excellently crazy, and we stopped and picked up sushi we had ordered earlier, with the plan to take it back to Karin’s place to eat…except that when I was leaving the parking garage, I managed to scrape the bottom side of the Tesla really badly on a metal barrier, and that completely ruined my entire evening. I was in tears the rest of the night and didn’t sleep well either. It’s the third scrape we’ve had on the Tesla, but the first that was my fault. The other two happened in Tetra Pak’s parking lot with no clue as to who did them. GAH. Anders has submitted the incident to our insurance company so we’ll see this week how much it will cost, since we have to take it in somewhere to have it evaluated. It’s driveable, at least.

Today, I slept in yet again, and then Anders brought me in roses and some candy for Mors Dag, and Karin came at 12 and she and Martin gave me a very cool constellation map jigsaw puzzle and took us to lunch. We went to Café Smedjan as I wanted to go to the plantshop (even though it was raining), and it was packed in the café. I had a very nice Caesar salad, and rhubarb meringue pie for dessert. Karin had brought me a big bundle of fresh rhubarb too, so now I want to make the same pie!

It’s a crazy busy week ahead, with 5 full days of work, the last AIC monthly meeting of the season on Tuesday, our wedding anniversary with dinner out on Wednesday, book group on Thursday, and AIC lunch plus an all-afternoon team activity at work on Friday. And on Saturday, I’m meeting Debbie and Camilla for lunch to celebrate their birthdays and then we are going to the opera to see Så Som i Himmelen, while Anders is going to the racetrack with Mats. Busy, busy!

And somewhere in there I need to find time to call the crate company in the US and get the crate ordered for sending home Martin’s furniture, my stuff from my mom’s house, and John’s skiis and snowboards. We’ve been talking about it since before Martin moved home to Sweden, and now we are finally ready to put it into action. It’s going to cost quite a lot, but I had all the money from the pandemic stimulus checks saved for it.

It’s unbelievable that it’s already the end of May. 5 months of 2022 already done. Slow down you move too fast, time. I’m ready for summer, though, even if it means full weeks of work with most of my colleagues gone. Bring it on!
