SUMMER DAYZ

I am having ZERO luck luring the neighbor’s cat over to be petted. He’s a very friendly cat…from a distance of about 3 feet. Any closer and he turns and casually strolls away, just out of reach. It’s so frustrating. Pspspsp doesn’t work, neither does mrp, or mrrrp, or scritching at a cushion. I suspect if I could get down on my knees or sit on the ground he might be persuaded, but I can’t and sitting in a chair, or innocently leaving the screen door and porch doors open, hasn’t worked either. Curses, foiled again.

Today was simply stunning. 23-25 degrees, a lovely breeze, blue skies, and clouds only on the horizon. Of course I was at work at the office all day, so I couldn’t enjoy it as much as I would have liked to. When I came home, Anders was on a ladder in the middle of the cherry tree, picking cherries. He said for every 5 he picked, he threw 4 away as they were either moldy or bug-eaten. He got stung in the chest by a wasp, one of several who obviously consider the cherries their personal feasting spot. He filled 2 bowls, so that makes 4 bowls full that we got this year. Pretty good since we were so late starting to pick them. He was talking about making something, but hasn’t decided exactly what. Cherry chutney? A pie? (I vote for pie) We’ll see. This is his last week of vacation, and it was supposed to rain every day, so today was a gift.

I just looked out the window and Pluttis (the cat I’m trying to lure) was on his way back to the neighbor’s house. But he stopped and turned when I opened the window and pspspsp’ed at him. He came right over, but SO TYPICAL, declined to jump up onto the window ledge. One of their other cats was lying in the middle of the yard, looking judgmental. They have 3 black and white cats that all look too similar to tell apart. The only reason I know the one that came close is Pluttis is because he’s the only friendly one. I have actually petted him, over at their house, once. Sigh. They have 2 black-and-white border collies as well, so it’s a veritable plethora of Pooka pets over there.

Do you know what that reference is to? Pooka was one of the cats I had for years before we came to Sweden. She and Toby were both black-and-white, and thereafter all black-and-white animals were designated Pooka animals. Pandas? Pooka bears. Zebras? Pooka horses. Dalmations? Pooka dogs. Orcas? Pooka whales. đŸ˜€ You can read about her here, but be forewarned: sad ending.

Anyway. I don’t really have anything to talk about. I’m just enjoying the sunny evening, the sound of the dogs barking, music playing, cool air coming in through the open window. I’ve already had dinner, and it’s still about an hour to go until bedtime for me. I’ll go read and maybe start a crossword puzzle. So this is just for posterity. Roses, honeysuckles, green tomatoes, another cucumber nearly ready to pick, and two full bowls of cherries. Yum.
