NEWS TO ME

Today was meant to be a slug day, too, but I woke up super early in pain (AGAIN), same as last weekend, and couldn’t get comfortable or back to sleep for several hours. I’ve already been this past week to the doctor and gotten a time booked for an ultrasound (in 2 weeks) to have my gallbladder checked, since it happened last weekend and my brother yelled at me, but now I’m just hoping I don’t have an acute episode beforehand. URGH. So, when I finally DID get up, I showered and dressed, and then, thumbing my nose at both...

WRITING THRU THE GRUMP

I’m in a bit of a grump space right now, and I don’t like posting when I’m feeling this way. Work is really stressful, I’m having major issues with my shoulder (the OTHER one, this time, GAH), I’m finding it very difficult to be a parent right now, and I can’t stop checking the news for the latest political horrors being perpetrated in the US. It’s like watching a train wreck only all the potential victims are us. I got an email the other day that our choir start date has been pushed back at least 2 weeks because they...

IT’S ME AGAIN

You know, I had seriously good intentions to post more often this month, since I was so lame busy in November, but it appears that I am paving the road to blog post hell instead. I hate just writing catch-up posts of what I’ve been doing, where I’ve been, why I’m absent, because who cares, really? I know I have a few faithful readers, but I really wonder if anyone is REALLY following this journal anymore. I don’t know that I would be, if I were you. Though it’s not like there are a lot of bloggers left to follow...

THERE I GO AGAIN

It’s been another crazy busy weekend in the string of crazy busy weekends that make up my life. On Friday, I had another (!) Wonders dinner, this time without Angie, at Kelly’s home. I joked the since we were missing “won”, we were only the Drrrrs. It was not the most fun evening, since we mostly talked about our anxieties over the upcoming election and divorce/custory horrors. The next time we’ll see each other is Thanksgiving here in Flyinge, but that’s not until the beginning of December (our date is late this year due to Anders’ work travel schedule). Last...

POP!

I have rubbed my eyes so much and so hard in the last week that I’m seriously starting to wonder if I could damage my eyes (yes) or have permanent bloodshottiness (probably). I just googled the dangers of rubbing your eyes and scared myself silly. Stupid allergies. I am taking medicine and liberally dousing my eyes with Visine and yet: OH GOD THE ITCHING. IT ITCHES. AAAAAAAA!!!! It’s so bad that there is literally only about an hour or so that I have mascara or make-up on before I arrive at work. By lunch it’s all gone even though I...

BUT DO I REALLY FEEL THE WAY I FEEL?

Spring spring spring! Everyone is posting about spring! AT’CHOO! RUB RUB RUB….augh, my itchy eyes! Spring: pffooey. Allergy season, more like. It gets worse every year, which bums me out because I AM excited about spring. Can we skip to the part where my eyes stop itching? haha! Anyway. It’s Easter break and the kids are off school, despite the fact that they were off school for a week just 3 weeks ago. Spoiled rotten, that’s what. Karin is off for the second night to stay with friends in Lund. She’s flying the coop more and more. Martin is still...

THE BUSY LIFE

It’s the last day of January and I’ve made it through the first month of the year and last week’s crazy. More ahead, however…the fun never ends! Our first choir practice was last Thursday and I came out of it positively bouncing. I knew I had missed singing but hadn’t really realized how much until I was there. It was SO FUN! There are 2 choir leaders, a young woman who sings and leads and a young man who plays accompaniment on the guitar. They handed out printed sheets of lyrics, not sheet music, which was a little weird for...

OPPOSITE OF SLUG

If I was away from LJ for several days some years ago, it could take me hours to scroll through and read everything on my friends list and RSS feed. These days, it’s a matter of minutes. Nice on the one hand, but sad on the other. It’s been a busy weekend in the middle of 2 busy weeks at the beginning of a busy month. On Friday I went to see Top Hat at the Malmö Opera House with my friend Debbie. She and the Wonders had given me a gift certificate when I had that big birthday a...

WELL VERSED

My cousin Cate jokes about Inappropriate Movie Night which she’s ended up at more than once, taking her young daughter along to a film that turned out to be…more adult than she had bargained for. Anders and I have accidentally had the same thing happen to us more than once ourselves, getting all excited about showing an old film for a Friday night family myskväll that we remember as being great (and that usually WAS great), but which turns out to be…more adult than we remembered. A Fish Called Wanda, for example, which both my kids still cite as a...

THINGS TO DO IN A QUIET HOUSE WHEN YOU’RE ALONE

Sing out loud. Warble. Yodel a little bit. Talk to yourself. Wander through the rooms and touch things. Pet an old teddy bear on the head. Make note of things that need to be done, now that you suddenly have the chance to SEE things around you without any whirling chattering children filling up your senses. Read for uninterrupted hours. Watch a movie that doesn’t have any superheroes or superpowers or animation in it. Lie on the couch and stare out the window. Get messy with craft stuff at the art table. Organize a cabinet or a closet. Put things...
