BACK ONLINE!

I was starting to get twitchy, I was. We’ve been mostly computerless all this past week, and while I could have posted, I suppose, from my iPad or iPhone, typing on those makes me insane and prone to rage meltdowns, so I figured it was better to wait. Anders installed Ubuntu (which is some sort of Linux operating system, and which he’s been wanting to play with/install for years) instead of Windows and then promptly left on a ski trip for a week and I couldn’t find or download any of my usual programs, so I’ve been kicking my heels...

LITTLE THINGS AND LITTLE THOUGHTS

We’re dog-sitting this week, for the first time in ages, and it’s a little dog…more of a cat/rat than an actual dog, if you ask me, but I’m partial to big dogs. Or at least bigger dogs. I knew someone in college that called little dogs “dropkick” dogs, because you could, well, you get the idea. This one is a little too big for that and she’s too sweet for dropkicking even if she’s a little weird. She’s a miniature Pinscher, which is kind of a mini-mini-Doberman, isn’t it? I always though of Pinschers as kind of little Dobermans. She’s...

BEYOND RANDOM

Is there a word for thoughts so random that they defy the category of randomness? I feel like I have butterflies in my head. Not surprising, since my brain is basically full of either work (oh god, work work work) or TwoDots. I can’t do much at home most evenings and forcing myself to sit here for 10 minutes or more is an exercise is zoning out about how it starts hurting worse immediately. Onward to randomnicity! Randomopolis (where I live)! Randomalooza. We had 4.5 days off work for Easter. My daughter had a week off school. We had dinner...

BITS AND KIBBLES

Still buried at work, but at least can see the light at the end of the tunnel, as one of my teammates is done with her monster project and back to normal workload. The other one is still out of the office, but we are hoping she’ll be back by the end of the week. I got my printed blog book for 2017 and I was right: it was the skinniest yet. OY! It’s, like, just over a quarter of an inch thick. Considering that most years it’s closer to double that if not more, it was a lean year...

LAZY FIRST DAY OF THE YEAR

We just watched the first episode of the 4th and last season of Bron and I don’t know if I can take it, waiting for a WEEK to see what happens next, for SEVEN MORE WEEKS. It’s like living in the 90s. We had a nice New Year’s Eve with a great dinner cooked by Anders that the kids stuck around for, before disappearing to parties in Lund. They both came home after lunch today and we had dinner together again. Nice! Especially considering that Martin is leaving in just a few days. Too fast! It’s been a pretty lazy...

GOOD GRAVY

For some reason my last two posts were set to private, though I swear I haven’t changed the settings on my editor, so what the hell, Livejournal? Now I worry I need to check back through every post to make sure they are all visible. No WONDER I don’t get any comments! Drrrr. It was a multiple holiday weekend. We have Mårtens Gås (and Mårtensafton, since Swedes insist on celebrating all holidays the evening before, Veterans Day (in the US), Remembrance Day, and Swedish Fathers Day today. On Friday, Anders’ mom had us all over for a delicious (catered) meal...

SUM SUM SUMMER

Got home from the week in Germany last night, sailing up through the country like we had jet propulsion, in stark contrast to our crawling, staggering, stuttered drive down. What took us (and should take us) about 11.5 hours including the ferry and stops on the way back took a horrendous 16.5 hours on the way down, thanks to massive, unending construction and unbelievable traffic. Between Hamburg and Hannover on the way down, while I was at the wheel, 30 kilometers took us nearly 3 hours. ON THE AUTOBAHN. We had a lovely week with my brother, Simone, the boys,...

UP/DOWN

Good things Lilacs, pied wagtails, full-on spring, warm days, cool breezes, a long weekend right now and another one next weekend (!), Late Night talk show hosts that articulate everything I feel about my home country right now, singing Africa in choir Not so good things Pinched nerve, lack of motivation, mixed emotions that threaten to overwhelm me, not being able to sit at the computer without pain, unfriending people on Facebook because I just can’t take it anymore, end of choir term and not knowing if our choir will continue in the fall Looking forward to Midsummer week in...

SPRUNG!

Even my mom has mentioned how neglected my blog is. I know, I know! I survived the MRI, but it was not a pleasant experience at all, and I have to wait a week for the results, to even know if they got good enough images to use or if they will want me to do it again (please no). It’s a extra-long Easter weekend, which is nice except for the fact that I am STILL sick (coughing mostly and snucky) and Anders is sick and Karin is sick. The kids and I actually colored eggs on Thursday, something I...
