HOLIDAYS, CASTLES, ANNIVERSARIES, SHOWERS & A QUESTION

It’s gone a week, nearly, and suddenly it’s June. And I’m beginning to have that panicky feeling of “where has the year gone?” It’s nearly half over! Eeek! Christmas will be here before you know it! Haaa! Anders comes home tomorrow from his 3-weeks of jaunting. He’s home for a week, then gone for a week then gone for the weekend, then gone for a week. THEN he’s on vacation, and we still haven’t bought tickets for our trip to Iceland. I don’t even know if we can really afford it. There seems to be no end to the things...

BUSY BUSY BUSY

Zoomity! Thank goodness I got to sleep in both yesterday and today because it’s non-stop go go go otherwise. *** Sweden allllmost won Eurovision but got shoved under at the end by Azerbajian and Italy. Which was good considering Sweden’s song wasn’t very good. But which was bad since the 2 that beat it were actually WORSE. *** I have had it up to HERE with malfunctioning computer-y things. The router or the wireless or the internet or SOMETHING doesn’t work right and it keeps disconnecting, constantly. We have to constantly disable and reconnect and inbetween restart the router manually,...

RAMBLING

A jackdaw perches on the corner of the playhouse. I can hear the summer sound of children laughing and bouncing on the trampoline as the sun slides into shadow at the end of the day. A tiny spider dangles by a silken thread from the edge of the porch roof, legs wheeling frantically as it motors upwards. All the greens have evened out, darkened into summer shades; the neon edges of newness no longer vibrant and jarringly alive. Today is only Tuesday. For once, the week seems to be strolling through the days; no frantic sense of time slipping by...

AND SHE’S OFF!

I didn’t even remember it was the first of May today until just now at 9:16 p.m. This weekend has been full of lilac buds, neon green beech leaves, bonfires, berry cobbler, cheese & bacon dogs, real dogs (4!), and blue skies. Today I learned how to weave willow. We made a bottomless basket which can be used in a myriad of ways: as a raised bed, as a peony support, to hide a cement well cover. It’s as big around as my arms when I hold them out in a circle. Then I made a willow cone: a wigwam...

ABOUT AS HAPPY AS YOU MAKE UP YOUR MIND TO BE*

Black black skies with white white stars. Orion is tilted drunkenly to the left, leaning over our driveway. The big dipper lies lopsided across the other side of the sky, a big ol’ bowl of stars above my head. Our 5-day dog’s back end wags to and fro, tail in counterpoint. Her surprisingly small feet make swishy prints in the sparkley snow powder. I huff above the edge of the scarf wrapped over my head and around my neck: dragonbreath blooms and my glasses fog. I’m making messes of one-dish wonders for lunch lately; I’m sick of salads. Rice or...

IT WOULD BE AN UPDATE IF I WAS ACTUALLY UP

We went to see Tangled tonight, partly because I’d been “boring” all day and Karin and Sydney and probably Martin, who didn’t actually say so, like his sister, who reiterated it several times, were BORED, MOM, and because I had forgotten all about Melodifestivalen starting this evening, but I think we got the better end of the deal because the movie was AWESOME. I admit to having a really soft spot for Disney when they get it right, and with John Lasseter, they REALLY get it right. At the end of the movie, we stayed to watch the end of...

TIDDLY BITS

Last day of sluggishness wasn’t very sluggy, though it got off to a sluggy start with a major sleep-in. Asked Anders to take an hour out of his day to purge clothes in our closet and he went bananas and filled 8 big paper shopping bags and a giant black garbage bag with discards. Whoa! Organized MY side of the closet too, clearing out some tops I never wear and putting things in order. I don’t switch back and forth between winter and summer clothes, but I do keep the hanging items organized by type: sleeveless, short-sleeve, long-sleeve, sweaters. A...

WE INTERRUPT THIS BROADCAST

I only have one more day of photos from our Italian adventure to edit and post, but I don’t feel like it right now. I’m feeling a bit disappointed (disappointed!) (does anyone else hear Kevin Kline’s voice yelling that every time they use the word?) (No? Just me?) with myself over having posted so very little this past couple of months. Really, I could do better, couldn’t I? I remember the days when I posted all the freaking time. Yeah, glad that’s over with too, but honestly, a LITTLE more effort would be appreciated. Up duff, Slaughter-Ek, etc. It’s just...

LEAVING ON A JET PLANE

What I really want to do at the end of a week like this is collapse, muddy & exhausted. But the adrenaline rush of the last several days…weeks, heck who am I kidding: MONTHS keeps me buzzing long after I should have. The to-do lists have been decimated, both at work and at home, and even though there is ALWAYS something still to be done, it will just have to wait: work, for Monday, and home, for when I get back from Boston. I’ve been so busy this week that I’ve not had a lot of time for noodling around...
