MY MENU CONSISTS OF 2 CHOICES: TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT

Aagh! Just got a notice that my extra userpics are expiring quickly. what to do, what to do? I don’t think I can live with just 15. *** The annual school photos came in the mail yesterday. Martin and Karin have serious expressions in both of theirs, although Karin looks like she’s about to go ballistic on someone, she’s got that glint in her eye. Martin actually looks a little surprised. He told me that they had an English lesson in school today. They had to choose the color of a tomato from a 3-choice list of words. *ROLLS EYES*...

PRESSED BETWEEN THE PAGES OF MY HEART

As promised long ago, here is a selected set of some of my favorites from the weekend Tracey shot my kids. I have so many favorites from this photo session that choosing a handful to post here was an major exercise for me. All photos credited to Tracey Marshall, Studio Zoe. (Delivering the spitting image of you)

MY CHILDREN ARE FREAKS

You’d never guess it by the picture-perfect photos that I usually post (hahaha!) or the ones that Tracey has just posted, but my children are FREAKS OF NATURE. I could get them on Stupid Human Tricks! My sister can turn her arms all the way around and inside out with her palms flat on the table, and I used to be able to vibrate my eyes (now it gives me a monster headache), but I don’t know where my kids got their freaky freakishness. The apple may not fall very far from the tree in most cases, but this time...

BOUNCING BACK TO BITE ME

I’m ashamed to tell you where the camera was. We looked around outside this morning and reaffimed that it was nowhere on the deck, in the yard or in the garage. Karin reiterated that she had left it out on the porch table and not taken it anywhere else. We talked at the breakfast table about the 3 friends who were here in the afternoon and whether or not any of them might have taken it to play with or moved it and Martin and Karin were asked to ask them nicely if they remembered having seen it. I worked...

HABITUAL, NOT RABBITUAL

You know how life seems to speed up around the second half of the year, as if now that summer is over, it’s picking up speed down the slope, moving gleefully away from those long slow sunny days (oh ho ho ho) and into the stretch? School starts, vacation is over, activities begin again. Festivals and fairs bop and jive, the circus comes to town. In Flyinge, the organizers of the annual giant flea market/auction send out flyers soliciting gently used goods one weekend from all the households, and then cheerfully sell them back to everyone in town but the...

WHAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN

I thought about writing a big ol ranty rant but, no. I thought about writing a scholarly treatise on a subject about which I know much and you know little, just to enlighten the world a little bit but, no. I thought about writing a zany, knee-slappingly funny anecdote (true story! WAHAHAHA!) but, no. I was going to give you a blow-by-blow account of how my day went from a bad start to a crazy center, gooey like a cream-filled chocolate, only not nearly as good, to movingatthespeedoflight to crisis center action to okay I can’t do anything about this...

PITY PARTY FOR 1

We had a power outage yesterday evening while we were gone, and I set the clock right before I went to bed at 11:30…only I set it wrong and when the alarm went off at 7 a.m. this morning and I hit the snooze thinking I could doze another 5 minutes, Anders said to me, “Liz, it’s 8 o’clock, what are you doing?” And I screamed and leaped and swore bad words and raced around like a chicken with my head cut off, and then I went to work. And I worked really damn hard and I didn’t leave until...

THERE IS NO COMPARISON BETWEEN THAT WHICH IS LOST BY NOT SUCCEEDING AND THAT LOST BY NOT TRYING*

Ow, cleaning bug! Don’t bite so hard!! I got the kids’ department picked up, dusted and vacuumed the entire house, cleaned the bathroom and did 2 loads of laundry…what more do you WANT FROM ME?? Outing plans were moved to tomorrow and we are planning to spend Sunday afternoon at Bakken, a lovely little amusement park in the forest outside of Copenhagen with our friend Mats & Annelott. And I have sushi with friends to look forward to tonight, so this weekend is shaping up to be a good one. 🙂 And best of all, Angie called this morning, and...
