ALL AGLOW

I wonder if zombies ever feel like they are going through life like humans? It seems to be worse in the winter, that troglodyte feeling, of shuffling from bed to work to home to bed and around again, arms outstretched, feet flat and clomping. The sun was out today, and I would have stretched to it and turned, following like a flower, in fact I could feel my yearning pushing at the walls of our office building. Alas, by the time I left, it was pitch out, dark like it was 10 o’clock, and it was only a few minutes...

HALLOWEENIES

I want to be in the U.S. next year for Halloween. I want my kids to experience it RIGHT. We had the AWC Halloween party today and while it was really nice, if a bit chaotic, it was just a masquerade with decorations. A couple of years ago we got to participate in the closest thing to a real Halloween since we moved to Sweden, courtesy of a friend who put her heart and soul into making sure her children got to experience as close to the real thing as possible, and it was wonderful, but I really, REALLY want...

YOU SAY TOMATO, I SAY TOMAY-DOH!

I was starving by the time lunch rolled around today, and I ran downstairs to the canteen to pick up the food I had ordered from our take-in restaurant. It comes in a styrofoam hotbox, full of little aluminium carryout containers for the people who ordered ahead. Today’s lunch was a beef patty with melted cheese and little fried potatoes with spinach. There is always a bowl of mixed salad as well, so I put everything on a plate and stopped to pick up utensils and napkins. Often, the kitchen personnel set out plates of leftover tomatoes and cucumbers from...

PRESSED BETWEEN THE PAGES OF MY HEART

As promised long ago, here is a selected set of some of my favorites from the weekend Tracey shot my kids. I have so many favorites from this photo session that choosing a handful to post here was an major exercise for me. All photos credited to Tracey Marshall, Studio Zoe. MY CHILDREN ARE FREAKS

You’d never guess it by the picture-perfect photos that I usually post (hahaha!) or the ones that Tracey has just posted, but my children are FREAKS OF NATURE. I could get them on Stupid Human Tricks! My sister can turn her arms all the way around and inside out with her palms flat on the table, and I used to be able to vibrate my eyes (now it gives me a monster headache), but I don’t know where my kids got their freaky freakishness. The apple may not fall very far from the tree in most cases, but this time...

BOUNCING BACK TO BITE ME

I’m ashamed to tell you where the camera was. We looked around outside this morning and reaffimed that it was nowhere on the deck, in the yard or in the garage. Karin reiterated that she had left it out on the porch table and not taken it anywhere else. We talked at the breakfast table about the 3 friends who were here in the afternoon and whether or not any of them might have taken it to play with or moved it and Martin and Karin were asked to ask them nicely if they remembered having seen it. I worked...

PITY PARTY FOR 1

We had a power outage yesterday evening while we were gone, and I set the clock right before I went to bed at 11:30…only I set it wrong and when the alarm went off at 7 a.m. this morning and I hit the snooze thinking I could doze another 5 minutes, Anders said to me, “Liz, it’s 8 o’clock, what are you doing?” And I screamed and leaped and swore bad words and raced around like a chicken with my head cut off, and then I went to work. And I worked really damn hard and I didn’t leave until...

CRAFTY CORNER

Ta-dah! I finally finished putting together my new art table and everything looks so organized! I’m motivated just looking at it! Sometimes I wonder if I’m a bit TOO organized, and suspect that organization kills creativity in many subtle ways, but when it makes me so happy how can I not give in?
