All the white blossomed beauties are in full bloom these days. Every day is sunny and blue with a high bright sky and just enough chill in the air to make it comfortable and keep the flies under control. I’ve put up screens on all the windows in anticipation of rising temperatures and switched to the summer blankets on the beds. This evening Karin and I went for a walk and took the camera with us, as I was determined to finally, after NINE years in Flyinge, capture the pear tree allĂ©e in full bloom. Every year I anne-of-green-gables my...
When we are in the States I usually schedule a time for us to have a family portrait taken at Sears, since it’s so much cheaper than most of the photo studios here in Sweden. This year however, when my mom called, the price was nearly 3 times what it was the last time we were there 3 years ago (!), so mom checked around and got a recommendation for a local photographer from her massage therapist and booked a time with her for the first week we were home. Katie and her husband run their photography business out of...

I know now what I want to be when I grow up. Honestly. The very best thing about blogging is the people that you meet. It’s a fact that kindred spirits really do exist and though they may live halfway around the world, you can befriend them and learn to know them and maybe, if you are lucky and a little stalkery persistant, actually bamboozle them into opening their home to you for a weekend. They may even provide food! They may even COMPLIMENT YOU ON YOUR HAIR. My mom and I drove into the veritable wilderness a few hours...
Equinox, schmequinox…you couldn’t tell by the temperature the past couple of days that Spring is just around the corner. It is, isn’t it? Just around the corner? I might have to go find it and DRAG IT BODILY HERE. Regardless, walking in the crisp air is invigorating and each time I go the faster I get. The past few days have got me to the point of realizing that my hard work is beginning to pay off: feeling that my pants are getting baggy, putting on an outfit for work the other day only to realize that the shirt was...
Today everyone is better, the sun is shining and spring seems just around the corner, though the temperatures are still a bit chill. I want to fling all the doors and windows open, and put music on and turn it up. Martin and I went for a walk in the sunshine. We saw ladybugs, lots and lots of ladybugs! And smiling people. And barky dogs and inquisitive cats and flirty chirpy birds. And lots of people out working in their yards. It was such a nice walk that we think we’ll go for another one in a little bit. Martin...
Gah. I hate sewing. It goes all the way back to when I was 13 or 14, taking home ec in junior high. Even though all my girlfriends were in the class with me, and it was only for a term (we alternated to woodshop, which was okay…I made the cutest mouse-shaped cheeseboard for my mom which she still has, and then cooking class, which I also hated, but mostly because the teacher was so awful. She stood over your freshly baked and just-removed-from-the-oven brownies and scratched her dandruffy head RIGHT OVER THEM. *shudder*) My sewing skills are only what...
My firstborn turned 9 today. No matter how much I squish him down on the top of his head, he keeps growing. All he wanted for his birthday, and all he got, was books and Lego (and one Bamse DVD). If you were 9 years old and your parents asked you what you wanted for your birthday dinner, what would you say? Pizza, maybe. Tacos! Hotdogs…hamburgers, salmon even. I was pretty sure he would say salmon or the inevitable sushi, but he wanted JULBORD. He and Anders made a list of all the absolute must-haves for his julbord birthday dinner,...
