JINGLE JINGLE, PART THE SECOND*

As usual, I was living in the moment and didn’t take nearly enough photos of our time in the States, but I was apparently better than the rest of my family. Martin says he only took 2 photos the entire time, haha. Here’s the photo dump from our holidays! Essie, Danely, and Karin decorating cookies Karin and Martin decorating cookies Karin outdoes herself with a cookie too pretty to eat! EK FAMILY CHRISTMAS LETTER 2025

2025 has been a lot, especially for Liz, and she is glad we have nearly reached the end of it. But there were lots of good things throughout the year as well! Karin spent a week in Canazei in January working for LionAlpin, and she and Anders went back in March for a week of skiing as well. In March, Liz headed to N. Carolina to stay for 4 weeks with Sarah and help with getting mom moved in to Sarah’s house. John arrived for the second 2 weeks of her stay and they managed to get mom’s house nearly...

JINGLE JINGLE, PART THE FIRST

In the spirit of trying to write as many posts as possible this year (and next!), here I am. It’s been a busy day in a busy week. Since I got home just before 5 pm I have tidied up, emptied the dishwasher, refilled it, handwashed a pile of dishes, filled in appointments and activities in my 2026 calendars, eaten dinner, listened to Discover Weekly and added a bunch of new music to my playlist, read a couple of newsletters (am behind by a day), and placed my new mousepad (gaming pad, hahahaha) by the keyboard. Still have to install...

GOBBLE GOBBLE

We had our Friendsgiving dinner last night and it was lovely. I think it was less chaotic due to the fact that we were only 20 people. We were missing 9 from our usual crowd, and it just made it nice and calm and really easy to talk to everyone throughout the course of the evening. Anders cooked one turkey on Friday and 2 turkeys plus 2 turkey breasts yesterday but I think if we manage to keep it around 20 people next year, we could actually get down to just the 2+2 and skip that 3rd or (eek) 4th...

GLAMOUR AT THE GALA

Yesterday, I spent just over an hour ordering Christmas gifts from various websites. One of them wouldn’t accept my card the first time, and I tried again until it did (since I knew there was nothing wrong with the card and figured it was just a glitch). Right as I was finishing up getting ready to head out the door to the Halloween party I got a text message from our bank saying there was suspicious activity on my account and asking me to call immediately. So I did, and found they had put a block on my card until...

CUTTING EDGE

This is me, currently. I took the photo last night. I was really cold, especially my head and neck, so I was wearing a fake fur neck wrap thingy. I never realized how much Barky kept me warm until I lost her. I sent the photo to a friend of mine and he answered “it doesn’t look that bad!” and he’s right…from the front, with minimal lighting, with it all slicked back instead of sticking up like a short-haired troll doll, it looks “not that bad”. But what he couldn’t see, and what you can’t see, is how thin it...

THE GOOD THINGS IN LIFE

I’ve been so busy all this past week out and about, and right now, Saturday afternoon, I’m only busy with my own home-chore-based to-do list, and one of the items on it is write a blog post! I wanted to write about some of the things I did this week so I have them down for remembering and posterity, as my brain can’t be trusted to come up with details about things in the past once we get to the future. Not because I’m experiencing any sort of memory loss, just that in general, I find it’s better to write...

IMPRESSIONS, EXHIBITIONS, AND EXPEDITIONS

I spent most of the day yesterday in Copenhagen with my friend Camilla. We met up at 9 am at the train station in Malmö and took the train over and then walked 2 blocks to the Glyptoteket. I have been there before, but it was ages ago, and all I remembered was admiring Rodin’s The Thinker and after realizing that a great deal of the museum is devoted to permanent galleries of Egyptian and Middle East, and Greek and Roman artifacts, lost interest. Not really my thing when it comes to museums. But Camilla was excited about 2 visiting...

GARDEN APPRECIATION POST

I’ve spent a lot of time this spring and summer admiring our garden. Anders does all the heavy lifting when it comes to the yard and vegetable garden. He mows the huge lawn, trims the hedges, weeds, edges, and plants most of the vegetables as well as netting and staking, and tying up when necessary. I buy flowers and put them in pots or plant them and water everything every day, and deadhead as needed. We’ve done more with fertilizer this year and it’s really helped, especially with the tomatoes and with a couple of the rose bushes, as well...

SHOWING OFF SWEDEN

So much for my good intentions of posting more in May. I managed 3 posts, then real life intervened. But in a mostly good way! My best friend from college, Julie, and her family: husband Todd (Benny), daughter Erin and son Drew, finally made it to Sweden to visit! I picked them up at the airport on Saturday, May 10, at 4:30 and we crammed all their bags into the Tesla and came over to Sweden. We managed to keep them up and got them on schedule right away, which I think was helpful for them. Anders cooked a delicious...
