ALWAYS TOO SOON

It’s been a crazy couple of weeks since I last wrote anything, with work filling up my brain and renovation projects at home squirreling in around the edges. Last weekend we did a big shop at IKEA and bought 3 new bookshelves for the computer room to replace the ones that have moved out to the garage storage. And yesterday I picked up another one from my friend Debbie, a skinnier model. So that made 3.5 new bookshelves to fill and organize. I started earlier in the week but finished it up today and everything looks nice and new and...

WHAT’S UP

It is such a long time since I posted that I feel like the veriest tyro. A blogging beginner. Again! Today was spelunking day, and on Monday I got sick with a massive head cold. …NOOOO. I was determined that NOTHING was going to hinder today’s appointment so I medicated and rested and took half a day off and another morning, and by today I was fine, though a bit stuffy in the nose, still. Compounded by allergies, I am ALWAY stuffy in the nose, so I figured I could get away with it. Off to Landskrona we went, and...

NEAT FREAKISH

This doesn’t happen to me so much outside of my own home, but it’s starting to drive me crazy. When I walk into the house, I immediately see the things that are out of place. The things that need to be cleaned, or put away. Today when I came home, the first thing I notice when I walk into the laundry room (aside from the blinking red light on the washing machine announcing that the load I put on a timer when I left this morning is done) is that Martin’s backpack is on the counter, along with his hat...

NO COAL AT ALL

Just a select few of the photos that Anders and Mom and I took during her visit and the holidays. She’s already gone to Germany and it went too fast, as always. We haven’t even heard that she got there okay…assuming she’s adjusting from teenagers to toddlers & babies! I can’t believe there is only one more day to 2013! Happy New Year! Anders with his mom on Christmas Eve Julbord! Martin opens his big present OMG a typewriter! Be careful what you wish for! (actually, it’s really cool and over 100 years old!) Best for last, of course! New...

A POST! A POST! MY KINGDOM FOR A POST!

HI there! Bet you thought I’d forgotten all about you. Nope. Just busy. You SAW my list of things to do this month, yes? And I am not even halfway through. REALLY, I have lots of time to post because my mom came on Tuesday and she has so far: made a gigantic pot of delicious soup for dinner, walked the dog (who is gone, boo hoo), washed the dishes, and AND IRONED EVERYTHING that I have been blowing off for WEEKS. She ironed 3 blouses, a pair of pants, a HUGE tablecloth and a giant pile of Christmas ribbons....

THESE ARE THE DAYS

Every day when I come into work, one of my colleagues greets me and then says what day it is. I don’t know if this is a Swedish thing, but I find it very strange. EVERY DAY. I suspect he is saying it for confirmation because he must understand that I KNOW what day it is. So, in case you weren’t aware or don’t have access to a calendar or are on vacation and not paying attention: today is Monday. One of my other colleagues is gone on a business trip this week, so we’re short one person, which means...

16 THINGS FOR THE 16TH DAY

1. We are almost completely out of toilet paper. Someone emptied the stock without writing it on the shopping list, prompting an angry harangue from me. Everyone insisted on their innocence, so it was apparently NOTME that did it. 2. We have friends coming over for dinner tonight that we haven’t seen in ages. Anders is making a feasty menu that includes pulled pork sandwiches, spare ribs, American coleslaw and twice-baked potatoes. I am adding a green salad and making dessert: white chocolate & raspberry pastries with ice cream and mini-meringues. 3. I dusted the house and now I can’t...

WHEN YOU RUN OUT OF INTERNET

The amount of high-speed bandwidth we pay for each month gets used up by around the 15th these days. It’s due to 4 people being online pretty much all their waking hours. One child with a mobile glued to her hand, texting and skyping and instagramming and whatever else she’s doing. Two children listening to Spotify online, searching for music, watching YouTube videos. One husband watching television replays, news, and me…on the computer, checking Facebook, etc. We all check email. We all surf the web. We all rent movies on the Apple TV. It eats up our reservoir and leaves...

WHAT WE DID

When the weekend comes, what I want is not to have things to do, or errands to run or cleaning to get done. I want to RELAX, not think about work, sleep in, read books, watch West Wing and be a vegetable. Sometimes I don’t care if the sun is shining or it’s nice outside…I just want to be a slug in every possible way. Most weekends I get to do at least some of that. I almost always get to sleep in. I almost always get to read and watch some West Wing. But there are always things that...
