JINGLE JINGLE, PART THE SECOND*

As usual, I was living in the moment and didn’t take nearly enough photos of our time in the States, but I was apparently better than the rest of my family. Martin says he only took 2 photos the entire time, haha. Here’s the photo dump from our holidays! Essie, Danely, and Karin decorating cookies Karin and Martin decorating cookies Karin outdoes herself with a cookie too pretty to eat! Anders, Essie, Karin, Grandma Linda, and Martin – ready to open presents Danely is also ready to open presents The elusive Mr Bryce Me and my mom (who is not...

RESOLUTIONS, RELAXING, AND REMINISCING

I’ve been musing about new year’s resolutions and trying to decide if I want to do something. I really enjoyed the years that I had done a once-a-month resolution (5Ks, art, poetry), but I don’t really have any good ideas. I supposed I could do art every month again, since it’s been a few years. Or maybe I will do write a letter every month this year! That’s a good idea, I think! I might even make it write-at-least-1-letter every month for 2026. We got home from North Carolina yesterday after a long day of traveling. We got up a...

RETROSPECTIVE

a! I remembered! I was afraid I would forget and not remember to write my year-end retrospective until I got home and that would mean it would actually have been written in the new year. I think it’s happened once or maybe twice before but I’d much rather have it be my last post of the year. We are at my sister’s place in North Carolina, spending the holidays with her and her family, and my mom. It’s 10 days total and we have 1.5 days left, as we fly home on January 1st. We will actually arrive back in...

EK FAMILY CHRISTMAS LETTER 2025

2025 has been a lot, especially for Liz, and she is glad we have nearly reached the end of it. But there were lots of good things throughout the year as well! Karin spent a week in Canazei in January working for LionAlpin, and she and Anders went back in March for a week of skiing as well. In March, Liz headed to N. Carolina to stay for 4 weeks with Sarah and help with getting mom moved in to Sarah’s house. John arrived for the second 2 weeks of her stay and they managed to get mom’s house nearly...

JINGLE JINGLE, PART THE FIRST

In the spirit of trying to write as many posts as possible this year (and next!), here I am. It’s been a busy day in a busy week. Since I got home just before 5 pm I have tidied up, emptied the dishwasher, refilled it, handwashed a pile of dishes, filled in appointments and activities in my 2026 calendars, eaten dinner, listened to Discover Weekly and added a bunch of new music to my playlist, read a couple of newsletters (am behind by a day), and placed my new mousepad (gaming pad, hahahaha) by the keyboard. Still have to install...

THE GOOD THINGS IN LIFE

I’ve been so busy all this past week out and about, and right now, Saturday afternoon, I’m only busy with my own home-chore-based to-do list, and one of the items on it is write a blog post! I wanted to write about some of the things I did this week so I have them down for remembering and posterity, as my brain can’t be trusted to come up with details about things in the past once we get to the future. Not because I’m experiencing any sort of memory loss, just that in general, I find it’s better to write...

CONFESSION

I low-key miss my kids so much. I miss having them at home, where I know where they are, where I know they are safe. I miss having them here where I can enjoy their humor and their conversation and their presence. I miss Karin’s casual physical affection and Martin’s sharp-eyed commentary. I miss watching shows with them and movies, and playing games with them, and going for walks with them, and just, you know, hanging out with them. I can’t tell them this, at least not without joking about it, because I think they’d think it was something I...

RABBITS! RABBITS!

Well, I’m writing a blog post on the first of May, which is a holiday here in Sweden, and even though I didn’t say “Rabbits! Rabbits!” first thing when I woke up, I am writing it now, and that ought to count for something. It’s been an absolute stunner of a day, quite perfectly perfect: sunny, warm but not too warm, a cool breeze, blue skies, butterflies and bees and birds singing. The neighbor’s cat came around twice but is super shy, which is a bummer. I slept in and then played games and read before doing anything of import....

POSTING AND PITCHING AND PAPERS

I have to make up for not posting at all since mid-March, right? I only wrote 4 posts in March (before I left for the US) and I’ve only got a week and a half left of April, so I’d like to at least match March. Or beat it! We’ll see. HAHA! While I was in the US, Sarah connected to my Spotify account on her phone so we could listen to my playlist while we were driving around. And just now, HERE IN SWEDEN, I am listening to Spotify’s Discover Weekly and it was hijacked by her car! I...

POST-OP

Anders took me to the Ortho Center in Malmö on Friday morning. I had to be there at 10:30 am and he couldn’t stay so he dropped me off and went home to work on the MG and wait for my call to come be picked up. I checked in, paid (SEK 150!), and was sent up to the prep waiting room but didn’t wait at all (then). The nurse checked my name, gave me a cup of pills and a glass of water (pain medication and anti-nausea meds) and then handed me a pile of clothing and took me...
