KICKING ASS & TAKING NAMES

I got the rhythm. I am rocking the joint. I am powering through my to-do lists like a champion productivity QUEEN. I am getting things done. As Megsie said, I AM ON FIRE. Yee-ha! In front of me on the desk are 5 little slips of paper. One is the list of people coming tomorrow and what they are bringing. One is the list of people signed up for the cookie exchange on Monday. One is a nearly done to-do list of things that needed to be taken care of this past week: 2 things are not yet crossed off...

NOT EVEN 15 MINUTES OF FAME BUT I’LL TAKE WHAT I CAN GET

I had a phone call early this morning as I was getting ready for work. Karin had spent the night at a friend’s house (she & Martin are on Fall Break) and Anders had just left to go pick her up and drive her to an all-day soccer tournament somewhere. I figured it was Anders calling to remind me about something. It was Sveriges Radio, the local public radio station broadcasting from Malmö. IF YOU PAY PEANUTS, YOU GET MONKEYS*

Karin is obsessed with earning money right now…she wants to earn enough for a Playstation 3, which we’ve refused to buy, since we already have a Wii and PC games galore and they each have DS to boot. We had a Playstation 2, bought used from a friend of ours, for awhile 2 years ago, until it broke, but I already feel like the kids spend enough time playing games on the various screens in the house (including their phones) and don’t see the need for yet another game console. A couple of years ago, we decided it was time...

ROOTS & WINGS

Yesterday, I was a guest at an evening activity with one of our vendors. We were divided into 2 teams by our hosts: two delightful chefs who are making names for themselves in the Öresund region. David Fernandes, who owns the S:t Gertrud Patisserie and Tareq Taylor, who made a name as the owner and master chef of acclaimed Malmö restaurant trappaner. The activity was cooking our own dinner, under the leadership of our two chefs, and then sitting down to enjoy it. It was great fun, and the food was fantastic. One team (mine) was in charge of the...

FLICK PICKS

I know I will never catch up on all the good movies I have missed in the last bazillion years, but this weekend I finally got around to March of the Penguins (narrated in Swedish) and My Big Fat Greek Wedding (both of which were okay, but nothing to really write home about). There are so very many movies I would have liked to have seen and probably hundreds more that I don’t even know are out there, since I’m so far out of the loop where movies are concerned. If it’s not a huge blockbuster or a kid-friendly animated...
