I EVEN HANDWASHED THE KITCHEN CHAIR SEAT CUSHIONS

Things That Made Me Miss My Childhood Today: Googling the game Zoom Schwartz Pifigliano after seeing it mentioned in one of my old scrapbook journals. We played it at day camp. And Buzz. Those were fun games. Why don’t we play those anymore? Copying the poem Animal Crackers for jackiejj. My mom used to read that to me, along with the poems about the Gingham Dog & the Calico Cat, and the Sugarplum Tree, and Over in the Meadow, and the little girl with the little curl right in the middle of her forehead. Reading a chapter from Charlie and...

SAINTS AND POETS

I’m an addict in search of my next hit. The substance I’m addicted to isn’t hard to find, but it can be elusive and you have to keep an eye out for it. I suffer when I can’t get me some, and I have been known to spend money and time searching for it. Luckily, there are so many forms of the thing I crave that I don’t usually have to go too long inbetween highs. It never gets old, that blast of euphoria that sets me spinning, that raises the hair on the back of my neck, that dilates...

DISCERNING MINDS WANNA KNOW

Man, I wish Livejournal had run their special on permanent accounts a month ago!! 🙁 poo. Saving for summer vacation and puppies must take priority, however. I’m very boring today. Work has eaten every brain cell I had left, and chewed them up and spit them out. Grey pulpy brain cells lying wadded up in the bottom of my mental spittoon. HAHAHAHA!! EW. (hee!) You would laugh if you could have seen me just now. I wrote that, then I sat here and snorted giggles through my nose until my eyes watered. Then I had to put my head down...

OF THINGS WITH WINGS AND BOOKS WITH HOOKS

I was a luna moth once for Halloween. It was the best costume EVER. You couldn’t beat it if you tried. My mom made our costumes when we were small…once, little red riding hood; another time: full-size black bat wings, and then…the luna moth. The weird thing is that I don’t remember wearing it, and I don’t remember the reactions of anyone that saw it. I don’t think a photo of it even exists. It just glows like this shining light of COOLNESS about my childhood. It was complete with pale green net wings on a frame, with the “eyes”...

OUT OF THE CLOSET

Holy untame lions, Aslan. I just watched the trailer for the upcoming The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. *chills* It looks, as with a very few books-to-film, that they might have gotten it right. There aren’t very many films of books that really get it right, although it does seem like filmmakers are getting better at it. Anne of Green Gables was one. Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter were both the work of genius in bringing books to life, although I actually felt that the first Harry Potter film did almost TOO good a job. It was...
