HOARDER’S DILEMMA

What should I do with all my collections of beautiful images? I have folders stuffed with pages ripped out of magazines, virtual desktop folders stuffed with images that I’ve saved to savor, greeting cards that I have bought simply because they are beautiful, which means I will probably never send them to anyone because I am, funnily enough, selfish of beauty. Prints of photos by family members, old calendars that I have saved because I love the images in them, etc., etc., …! What do you do with this kind of stuff? Should I curate/collect them into some sort of...

HISTORY NEVER LOOKS LIKE HISTORY WHEN YOU ARE LIVING THROUGH IT*

I don’t know if you know that Martin has a blog. He doesn’t write on it, as it’s a Tumblr blog. He does photo-editing and puts together collages and GIFs of things he’s interested in. Mostly, up until now, it’s been a lot of American Horror Story and a couple of other TV shows that he watches. But about a month ago, he started a really cool project, with the plan to launch it on his Tumblr. He put together a collage…a huge one. A historical timeline of the 20th century illustrated by what he considered one of the most...

SQUAMALICIOUS

If there is someone who feels like an outsider, like they don’t belong, like they haven’t found their kindred spirits on this earth, there is sure no evidence of them at the Squam Art Workshops, nestled deep in the oak groves of rural New Hampshire. SAW is held at the twin lakeshore camps of Deephaven and Rockywold on the shores of Squam Lake. I’m sure there are times when it’s bleak there; in winter, maybe, when the leaves have forsaken the trees and the ground is slick with ice and downed branches and the lake is a gray and frozen...

I HOPE MY KIDS NEVER GET TOO OLD FOR THIS STUFF

This has been an altogether lovely week leading up to Easter. Lots of sunshine and a wonderful dog in the house to love on. The kids were home all last week so they went out walking and playing with London several times a day in the sunshine and then we went for a long walk in the early evenings. Tiny, tight green buds are starting to show on the tips of every branch. Easter flowers are blooming: crocus, daffodil, snowdrops, wood anemone. The furled knives of tulip leaves have stretched up tall in gardens all over the village. Tractors are...

LUCK HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT

I’ve been lucky so far—I don’t have a lot of wrinkles and have hopefully inherited the youthful skin my mom and her mom were blessed with. However, having blurry eyes day after day and a job that requires staring at the computer for 8 hours, plus wanting to keep up with my online life at home in the evenings has meant nothing but SQUINTING for what feels like ages. I can’t see a damn thing. It’s a good thing I know how to touch type. ARGH. And I’m giving myself wrinkles to boot! *** Martin and I went to the...

DAMN RIGHT I’VE GOT THE BLUES

Karin *attempting evil laugh* MOOHAHAHA! Liz *giggles madly* It’s MUAHAHAHA! You’re not a mad cow! Karin *glares* I’m nearly done painting the porch furniture. Yesterday, Anders laid plastic down to cover the porch floor…did I mention that we now have a porch?? Before we had a deck that went under the back of the roof on one side. Anders has enclosed it with sliding glass doors and 2 screen ones. He’s not quite finished with the paneling on the inside but it’s nearly done and I can stand inside and mock the flies: HA!, I say, Nah nah nah nah...

FISHING FOR COMPLIMENTS

Hrm…note to self: poetry and singing posts gather no comments. Or else it’s the dead weekend posting zone. Or else everyone is out of town. When did I become so needy addicted to dependent on interested in the responses and reactions from the figments people inside my computer? Hrm, indeed. I know! I’ll try posting my 2 latest pages from my collage book! Hey, you! Look, over here! Something shiny! (See all the collage pages so far…)

COMPLEMENTARY COLORING

It would probably help in getting comments if I didn’t accidentally set my posts to private, eller hur? *slaps forehead* *** I am such a wimp when it comes to spicy foods. A little wasabi is about all I can manage and most everything else hot just sears the lining off my lips, tongue, mouth and throat, while making other hardier souls laugh their heads off and point fingers at me, while chanting “wimp!” So, I tend not to eat curries or spicy Spanish and Mexican dishes or things with turbo-red killer chilis in them, and most salsa ain’t happening...

WHAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN

I thought about writing a big ol ranty rant but, no. I thought about writing a scholarly treatise on a subject about which I know much and you know little, just to enlighten the world a little bit but, no. I thought about writing a zany, knee-slappingly funny anecdote (true story! WAHAHAHA!) but, no. I was going to give you a blow-by-blow account of how my day went from a bad start to a crazy center, gooey like a cream-filled chocolate, only not nearly as good, to movingatthespeedoflight to crisis center action to okay I can’t do anything about this...

CRAFTY CORNER

Ta-dah! I finally finished putting together my new art table and everything looks so organized! I’m motivated just looking at it! Sometimes I wonder if I’m a bit TOO organized, and suspect that organization kills creativity in many subtle ways, but when it makes me so happy how can I not give in?
