WORDS, MORE WORDS, SOME MARTIN, AND MEMORY

It’s so quiet round these here parts, with half our family gone for the week. I’m sure Martin is loving it: getting to sleep in and play WoW as long as he likes without having to wrestle his sister for the computer. He doesn’t get to wrestle me for it, because if I say I want it, I get it. Snap. Last Friday I bought season 5 of Downton Abbey (which I’m pretty sure I have typed as DownTOWN Abbey every single first attempt at typing it, ever) and we are already done, plus we found the Christmas special online...

WHEEEEKEND!

It’s the weekend, it’s Valentine’s Day, and it’s Sportlov. Last week is well left behind us, except for Friday, which went swimmingly. I had my yearly “development talk” with my boss, which my kids asked if I was getting graded on. Yes, yes, I am, I said, and guess what you little slackers? A PLUS PLUS. Ha! I bought little boxes covered with hearts and kisses and filled them with favorite candies for my family and when I got up this morning I found roses and dark chocolate cranberry bars in my place. 🙂 Anders laughed at the card I...

BMC*

It’s been a crap week so far, and it’s only Tuesday. I’ve had it up to here with certain things and I honestly feel like I’m at the snapping point daily, at work. URGH. Just thanks to human nature, and you’d think I’d be used to it by now, but instead I feel like it’s having the opposite effect: I am LESS tolerant of such things than I used to be. And I apologize for being cryptic, but you just never know who is reading. ANYWAY. It was supposed to be sunny all week and yesterday was absolutely gorgeous. But...

HOW IT WAS THEN

It’s official, I’m addicted to Quizup. What is it about iPad games that is so alluring? It’s probably just because I miss playing Trivial Abuse Pursuit with my family so much. I tried to get Karin to play with me and she promptly challenged me in World of Warcraft. *rolls eyes* I forgot to mention that Martin was elected co-editor of the IB school newsletter. He’s been a staff writer this past term and then decided to apply for the editor job. It was 3 people, and he and one other girl got the job. He had to answer a...

MELLOW FOR MELLO

Another week gone and what do I have to show for it? The house is half-clean, my book is half-read, my work is half-done and my kids are half-grown. I woke in the middle of the night on Wednesday around 3 a.m., sweating hot and feeling very weird. I went and sat in the bathroom for a bit, convinced I was either going to throw up or was having my first and most horrendous hot flash. Felt feverish and generally discombobulated, but finally went back to bed, after nothing happened. Still felt like crap in the morning and even though...

KIBBLES AND BITS

Martin managed to rip holes in the seat of two pairs of pants this past week, so I had pants shopping on the agenda yesterday. When Karin heard that we were going she announced that she needed pants, too (since she only has 2 pairs, MOM), and I wanted to go to a specific store at one of the nearby malls that carries clothes in my size because my friend Debbie had the prettiest shirt on at the jewelry swap on Friday night and when I asked her where it was from, she said she’d just gotten it. I asked...

WHEW!

The weekend is half over and I am going to need another day, at least, to recuperate from it and the previous week. The kickoff performance went great, despite a last-minute panic when one of our team members didn’t show up. He was there during the day, for all the presentations, but after we wrapped that up and left to go to the place where we were having the evening activities, something happened and he had to leave, and never made it back. So we were left without our Uncle Sam. 🙁 Luckily, someone had the bright idea to ask...

MAD BAD SAD, THEN GLAD

Mad Our guest speaker for the first AWC meeting of the year canceled today, last minute. The meeting is TOMORROW. She wasn’t ready to present, and had been expecting me to get in touch with her a week ago, even though we confirmed the date and logistics AND topic FOUR months ago. Now we have no one even though we have been scrambling all day to find a replacement. ARGH. I got in touch with her a few days ago, but because it wasn’t a week, she didn’t feel prepared. Bad While filing a huge pile of home paperwork today,...

SOME PEOPLE CAN STAY IN YOUR HEART BUT NOT YOUR LIFE

Karin’s boyfriend, who was here for dinner last night and behaved in a completely normal manner, broke up with her today. GAH. She’s devastated, and I feel as if everything I say sounds unfeeling, condescending and pathetic. Even though it’s probably not. I remember (vaguely) what it was like to be 15 and in love, though I didn’t have a “real” boyfriend for another few years. Even if he’s her third boyfriend and not even the first that has broken up with her, even if she’s strong as a rock, even if she’s too young, he’s too young, they’re both...

TREASURE HUNTS

I probably wrote about these back when we were doing them, but I was cleaning our bedroom today (spring-cleaning! in the winter!) and found this little stack of tiny notebook pages. Upon further investigation, I realized they were the treasure hunt lists that I used to make to entice Martin to go walking with me. We’d walk around Flyinge with this tiny notebook and he’d check things off as he found them. I don’t remember how old he was but it has to have been when he was pretty young. 9 maybe? Give or take. Usually I would make up...
