MY SO-CALLED LIFE

Boo hoo hoo, no tapas tonight. πŸ™ No delicately crunchy, perfectly cooked and straightened* shrimp scampi with pesto creme. No tender marinated sweetly fragrant artichoke hearts lovingly wrapped with prosciutto. No ooey gooey rich and creamy potato and cream souffle smothered in melted gouda cheese with mouthwatering chunks of bacon. *drool* sigh But it’s just as well, since I can’t really afford to go out to dinner AND pay a babysitter when I’m supposed to be trying to save money to go to the States this summer. I’m starting to have a hard time with saying “going home” when I...

PAGING TIPPI HEDREN

It’s sunning outside. The sun is coming down like crazy! It’s a sunstorm!! And where am I? Am I out in the sun? NO, I am NOT out in the sun. I am sad because I am not out in the sun. I am sad. Sad I am. The sun is so out, in fact, that it has bleached the edges of the sky. It’s blue at the top and white around the bottom…like a sky left out in the…sun. Okay, that went nowhere. Made me giggle though. Words/Phrases We Should All Use More Often: gonzo, fat lip, spork (or...

MOSAIC MINDS

The new issue of Mosaic Minds is up, full of great articles, stories and poems for you! The masthead was my design: it’s a scanned photograph of a little glittery feather that jes6ica sent me in a crafty chica swap. I happen to love the theme this month: Winging It, which is not always how I behave or live my life, but it’s a kind of daring that I admire and wish I had more courage for sometimes.

SOMEONE FAMOUS

I guessed purrthecat‘s person, so it’s my turn again. After this, I have to get back to work!! Okay, I’m thinking of someone. Yes or no questions only, please! πŸ˜€ EDITED TO ADD: Once again, purrthecat pounds the competition by guessing correctly that the person I had in mind was Olga Korbut! Thank you all for playing! Now GET BACK TO WORK! hahaha πŸ˜€

GET UP, GET UP, GET OUT OF BED, GET UP, GET UP, YOU LAZYHEAD!

Sometimes it’s very hard to resist ascribing human motivations and emotions to the weather. Plus it makes for such great metaphors. πŸ™‚ This morning, Flyinge was blanketed with fog. The newly sprung green grass had a coating of frost. Everything was grey and white and opalescent. Driving through Flyinge and up the hill toward Lund, Father Sun was obviously trying to pull the blanket off, opening curtains, singing “Oh what a beautiful morning!” while the fog grumbled and tried to pull the covers up over its head. Then, as I crested the hill and came out of the fog, I...

WHO ARE YOU? WHO WHO, WHO WHO?

I’m now able to reveal that my design for the new logo of the AWC MalmΓΆ won, beating galestorm‘s by a very thin margin. I’m quite happy with the design, and now we can start planning tshirts and such. We had a record low turnout for the meeting last night: 11 people and that was counting 2 infants as one person. So the tone of the meeting was quite different, almost giddy, and we played a game that involves having a sticker put on your back with the name of a famous person/character that you then must figure out by...

WOULD YOU LIKE SOME GUILT WITH THAT LIFE?

Recently someone made a comment implying that I was a bad mom. Even though I laughed it off at the time, it stung a bit, obviously, as it’s still stuck to my sweater like a burr. At the party we were at a couple of weeks ago, a woman with three children asked me what I’d been up to lately, and I responded by telling her that work was a bit crazy, and I had a lot of club stuff going on, plus my new work with Mosaic Minds had me sweating an upcoming deadline. Her response: “When do you...

THE GRASS IS RIZ

We walked over to the Congregation House today for a Family Church service because Martin was singing with his little musiklek group. On the way, I discovered a long row of gigantic pussywillow bushes. Snowdrops are everywhere, and little purple and yellow crocuses have thrust out their heads. Tiny green buds tip each branch. The little creek along the snail trail slides like transparent quicksilver over the water-carved sandy bed and soaks the bottoms of the trees. A barely-there carpet of new, neon-green leaves is carpeting the forest floor, pushing up through the winter debris. Spring is sprung! Spring is...
